A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Candles my eggs that go on lock down tues.

Started with 14. Now down to 8. Out of those I could see movement in 3. The rest not sure about. Could see veins and embryo. All were set same time but look like at different stages of development.

So hoping for the 3 to hatch.

My pens and runs will be completed tomorrow. So my girls better enjoy free ranging today.

Good luck! I hope you get more than 3.

I have 30 in lockdown now. They were due Friday/today but I just got my first pip this evening. I know that 3 of them are quitters but I'm hoping to get a good hatch but I'm anxious. They were in my big incubator when I had a failure and wipe up to everything at 65°. I guess we'll see what happens

I saw them mate!

I looked out because Coconut was doing his Indian Rain Dance again, only this time Westley, my Cream Legbar rooster was trying to fight with him. That's when I noticed something underneath Coconut's feet. It was my Sweetgrass hen!

Westley did not succeed in knocking him off the hen, and after a bit he got off by himself. Well now I know what that Indian Rain Dance thing was all about. I have been educated on the turkeys and the bees!

I can maybe expect eggs soon? I can't wait. My Incuview is due to arrive on Wednesday!

I know we are all turkey obsessed here.

I have had Narragansett turkeys. But predators took them out but one hen.

I have palms. Bourbon reds. Chocolates. As breeding trios.

Have a chance to get a narri trio.

I gonna ask you all if I should get them.

I'm on the fence so you'll be the deciding factor.

I have the room. And in the past they seemed to sell the easiest and brought the best price.

Gosh, Feedman, if you have the room, and you expect they will be good sellers, then what's the hesitation? Sounds like all pros to me. Are there any cons to consider? Perhaps you could save the space for a different breed you have been considering? But if that's not the case, then Narris sound like a great idea!

My first turkey eggs went in today. I have 18, May none of them hatch! (fingers crossed they are infertile).

I put in a total of 103 eggs.

18 turkey
14 Toads
18 EE
7 SS
15 PC
31 Creamettes.

Feedman - you should definitely get the narri's if you have the space! Such pretty birds and it sounds like they are a hot seller in your area. Fingers crossed that you have a good hatch.

Ralph - Good luck with the next hatch (and may none of your turkey eggs grow veins) :p

Finnie - Sounds like Coconut settled right in and got down to business lol!

Aurora - Hope to see baby pics soon :D

Well, I got tired of listening to Big Bird and Coco yelp at each other through the wire - and put Coco in with the hens. Things are much quieter since the move. Stayed out with them for awhile waiting for the arguments, but they appear to be friends at this point. I'll check back out in a bit and see if everyone is still getting along :).

I found an egg with no shell today, perfectly intact membrane, but no shell. I have no idea who laid it - found it under the roost. Is that just one of those oddities that happens once in awhile? I've never had one before....

Thanks Feisty,, I am glad Coco is getting along and plays well with others.

I have some more disruption here. I moved all the black birds (BA's) in the Turkey hen pen. SO they can make me some babies. I will be moving JJ in later this week so I wanted the chickens to get use to it before JJ joins them.

Blackie was not really looking forward to the move. I was holding him under my arm and I decided it was a good time to check his crop and breast for fullness and size.

I reached for his crop and he bit me! Actually held right on and bit! I am glad his teeth are no sharper than they are or I would be bleeding or fingerless..

In case your wondering Blackie is not a lapper or even a tolerant.

I'll to get some pictures for you guys. I have a poult that I'm going to have to put down. She's about 2 weeks old and is acting and living fine but has a prolapsed vent. I've been trying to treat it for a few days but no progress. She the only poult left from the last hatches. The first hatch since my incubator failure is in the hatcher now. I have 2 poults that hatched out this morning but I'm still waiting on all the others. Probably hatch out overnight. Pictures eventually lol.

I wonder if anyone has ever tired to incubate an egg workout a shell? It would be neat to be able to watch everything through the membrane lol
