. A pecan! Well, one of my Australorps decided she's broody this week. She's sitting on nothing! Unfortunately I'm leaving Sunday to show dogs for a week. So my chicken/turkey sitter is thrlled about tossing her out of the nest a few times a day.![]()
For some reason I just can't get my sitter to give Daisy any lap time while I'm gone.Boy will I hear about that when I get home. Daisy will have her beak out of joint when I get back.![]()
Thanks! the chocolates are running around already! I love how they run to me when I put my hand in their brooder.OMG!! R2elk! Look at that nest full o'hens! If your wading in to break up the cluster clutch, video it for us!. I will say, that is a beautiful bunch o'hens! Boy are they giving you the "look"!![]()
And those chocolate babies are adorable!
It was a great weekend, managed to accomplish lots of things (with the birds help, of course). We spent part of today cutting down some big old hazelnut trees. Discovered that the boys do not like the chainsaws..... But they also do not like leaving us unattended while we play with chainsaws - so they gobbled for several hours straight and supervised the chop work![]()
I decided to be brave and try to candle Coco's eggs since she's been sitting on them for a week. I snuck in after dark and managed to get one before she bit me. I had no trouble sneaking eggs out from under a broody chicken - a broody turkey is a different ball game altogether
. Extra clothing, gloves, after dark....still only managed to peek at one of them. It looked like there was development in the one I saw - so I think I'll just wait and see if anything hatches now. These fingers are not going to be risked again
