A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

So your in PA...close to Ohio...meet me at the Nationals! 5500 birds of every kind! How much fun would that be?

That would be awesome! I think I'm 3-4 hours from the Ohio border though. I'm almost right in the middle of the state lol

Aurora - so sorry about the fawn :hugs you tried your best to save it.

Memphis - wow, Daisy is becoming a celebrity getting booked for parties and demos  I'll have to look up Ohio National and see where that is - birds and drinks you say?

Feedman - I'd slip the poults back under mom to get the ladies out of broodiness - besides poults raised by momma are less work (theoretically).

Ralph - I wish Ethel could give lessons about how to be a nice broody, you are so lucky!

Fiesty....Columbus Ohio. Can you imagine. ..5500 birds? It's a huge deal. Lots of the national breed clubs also have their annual national meets at this show. It's sort of a show within the show with the breed clubs coming in. Top birds from around the country. Aurora...it's practically down the road from you! I want to see the turkeys! And the Speckled Sussex folks! So many birds...so little time....

Question on Turkey Poults.... how long after hatching does it take for them to get stability and running around? The first one that hatched is seeming stable on his legs, the 2nd one does a lot of flopping around and ending up on his back. (less than 24 hours old).. Anyone with experience with this?? Ideas? Tips?

OK, so I uploaded a ton of poult cuteness for you guys, and then BYC stopped responding and I lost my page! Not gonna do it all again just now, maybe later. I think it's a problem with my wireless mouse or my internet.

But I'll try again with just a couple photos.

Cornflake is 5 weeks now.

The others are four weeks. Left to right, Cornbread, Snowflake, Cupcake and Cornflake again:

Then just in case I didn't already have enough turkeys, I bought this one that is from a Royal Palm male and a Bourbon red hen. Should be gorgeous, whether male or female. But I hope female, since I already have so many males.

And then y'all talking up your Speckled Sussex so bad, I couldn't resist buying these two when I had the opportunity. Nellie and Flossie, but I think Nellie is really a Nels. It's two weeks older than Flossie, but I don't think two weeks can account for the size of that comb! I might try to let the two of them increase their population.

Wabbit, I am not much experienced, but so far mine have gotten up and move around just like my chicken chicks. So I think there is definitely a problem if that one can't keep its balance. I don't know if it would be a good idea to try to cure it. (Just the way I see things.) But I know there are folks who try to medicate chickens with vitamin supplements to correct balance problems, and they have some success. The ones that aren't successful end up with some seriously defective chickens that need to be addressed later.

Maybe the more experienced turkey folks can give you some actual tips. Good luck.

Do not hold out a lot of hope on the one flopping, it happens. I have one that is headed to the dishwasher soap box this afternoon if he does not get better soon.

Finnie....thanks for the cuteness overload. They look great! Cornflakes is seriously beautiful! And SS too! Yipee! They are great birds.
