I had 5 thermometers and only two read the same so I had to calibrate them all and two hygrometers to get my hatcher to work properly.

I simply move my thermometers between the incubators, I figure if they are all reading relatively close in the other incubators they are on.

I have all three thermometers setting where I can see them from the table. I check them a 100 times a day, everytime I glance that way or walk through the house. I have a turner in the incubators not the hatchers.

I am going to put it down at this point to CL's being fickle birds. I will know in a couple weeks.

BTW my Broody is still sitting on eggs, that I thought would hatch by now too.

Of course, when I have eggs to hatch the weather turns to winter again...

I am sorry your CL did not hatch. Hopefully your Broody will have better luck!

And hopefully it will warm up there some.

Ralph- I know you are away today, performing top secret grandpa duties, but tomorrow when your broody leaves the nest, swipe an egg or two and candle them. Then you will have an idea on where they are timeline wise.

Do you think your diamond encrusted ladies would go broody if you left a few eggs in the nest? Maybe leave decoy eggs from someone else that are not worth so much, then if you push them broody, swap them out.

I hope you perfect hatching them, then tell me what to do, because my daughter will need a couple next spring for *cough, hack, cough* 4-H.

How are your turkey eggs?! Mine should hatch in around 10 days, I hope.

My first turkey eggs are ,,,either May 1st or May 8th, I forget. I think the 8th...

I am so heavily involved with Anna and Elsa I cannot even think straight. I hope to get a broody for my Creamettes.


Isn't there a time frame in which 4h chicks have to hatch...Like when it is colder than a witches......err Nose outside?

AAHH, would you like to build a snowman? Elsa and Anna were pretty popular here for a time as well.

I really have no idea when they have to hatch. I should look into it a bit more if I am going to use it as my guise...

So I might give the turkey eggs to Sparrow, what do you think? Or just leave well enough alone and try to do it myself?

With my luck this year,,,and based on my worthless YOUNG broody, I would leave the eggs in the incubator. I wish I had only given her 4 eggs to ruin instead of 10.

Because I cannot be sure what day she seriously started setting, I am giving her until Monday to hatch them, after that she is off the nest and back to work laying eggs...NO excuses!

I was in running and they had CX's at 1.49. I almost bought a couple to slip under her, then decided her temperament is not all that great to be a mother. She would probably be one of those mothers that drives her SUV into the lake and drowns the babies. She is so flakey. I hope not all EE are this weird when they go broody.

They took the job VERY seriously and we had to remove them from the coop and put them outside for a couple of weeks to break them. I wish I had the opportunity to see how they would do with motherhood because they would snag up eggs as soon as they were laid and scream the other hens away.

Speaking of eggs, While I was on Grandpa day care duty today I got a text from a guy wanting eggs for hatching. I called my mother and asked her if she could get him two dozen eggs. She went out and got some eggs (28) and let him take his from the 28 eggs. He took 2 dozen and paid her the 5 bucks for the 2 dozen ($2.50 a dozen)... Then he looked at a "little" egg and asked if he could have it. She said sure and gave it to him....I asked her what it looked like and she said a little pullet egg that was pointy on the end.


I knew it was one of my guinea eggs....I called the guy ( he lives 40 miles away and not worth the drive to go get it or look at it) to tell him it might be a guinea egg and if he hatches it he will have to give it 25-28 days. He was kind enough to send me a picture of the egg, it is a guinea egg.......Dang He got a bargain, Teach me to trust my 85 year old mother to sell my eggs!

But if I gave my turkey eggs to broody hens, what would I do for those 28 days? Pay attention to work? Pshaw... That's why I have three going on four overlapping turkey sets.

In all honesty, this year was really kind to me at work in the spring season. I have time to watch eggs grow. Next year may be different.

And one Guinea keet will be a very interesting experience! I hope he sets the chickens a few days late so the hatch is timed.
