A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Wow, yum - those birds looked delicious! Holy cow Holm - what were you feeding that bird to make him that big?? My DH texted me that our bird was also tasty - they had better have saved me a taster for Sunday when I get back :p

He had to forage for all his food from May to the end of July and then he was eating cattle feed for filling out butcher steers.

Beings it is colder than a witches nooby outside... (BTW I have no idea what a Nooby is. My kid said it, I hope it is not a bad thing..)

I decided to run a few birds through the color calculator.

Penguin! Who knew? I'm putting my order in for either a Barred Slate or a Slate Edge Bourbon Red tom. You could populate north American with baby Penguins! We would all end up with calico flocks! With a Penguin baby and my Slate & Bourbon Red girls, I definitely could end up with calico babies. You could market them as "Minnesota Calicos"!

It's not as good of news for penguin as I thought.

I have been playing with the calculator all morning. JJ can make every baby Penguin can and then some.

I am thinking of breeding the one I think is an actual Lilac to the blue red bronze. I have a 25% chance of having more Lilacs from that mating.

What is the difference between a self blue and a barred self blue?

I am seriously thinking of sending Sidekick to someone's Christmas table. If I kept the "lilac" and "JJ" the rest could all go bye-bye. The only reason to keep the Lilac is to get more Lilacs if I breed him to the blue red bronze. If I threw in a self blue hen for him I would get those barred self blues (100 % chance).

Of course JJ can make them too. JJ is just that good and special. I am worried now something could happen to him. I would be devastated!

Thank you to those who answered my oregano question last time, and thanks as well for the warm welcome. :)

I wish I was posting on happier terms today, though. One of my toms was torn up by his flockmates yesterday. Little blood; mostly bruising and missing feathers all along his head, neck, back, and side. I sprayed a few of the lesions with Blu-Kote to keep them from getting infected, then put him in a box in our laundry room. This morning, several of the lesions are weeping - not bleeding, just sweaty to the touch. Even the Blu-Koted ones are damp. Is there anything I should be doing? I don't want him to get chilled.
