Holm, that sounds like a cool project. That would be a beautiful bird.

I wonder if I could breed a pure red turkey like a Bourbon red but with the black lacing coloring of a Royal Palm.
JJ has finished his molt I think. Ethel looks full and beautiful.
But my question has to do with the molt. When the feathers came back in there are more "brownish red dark feathers" further up his sides and back than before.
Is it normal for a bird to get different colored feathers than before?
I hope this made sense. The new feathers are obviously different than the old ones.
Feathers fade over the course of a year plus they don't always come back with the exact same patterns and shades of colors. The mottled blacks and grays develop more white feathers with each molt. My Blue Slates don't have the exact same pattern of black splotches every year. I even had a Self Blue hen that in he fourth year had a black spot on one feather.
The other thing that fades are our memories thus complicating things and requiring photographic and other recorded proofs so that we can get it right.
My son keeps asking me that same question. I still haven't cleaned the bator out yet. It's cold here too. 36 degrees currently! However it will warm up this week into the 70's. Weird weather. Ralph, your signature is hysterical!
I agree, you'd think they would want to promote classes for these kids interested in poultry.
Chaos. ..when are you setting eggs!![]()
I'm getting some Heritage Dominiques from My Pet Chicken. Super cool looking birds.I have not gotten any from him. I have heard he has great Dominiques. They are on my radar. I like barred birds. I only have one barred rock left (Pocahontas). I would like to get more of them.
I am trying to slowly go to more quality birds instead of just birds. That said I have no complaints with my BA and EE, they lay like crazy and are all sweethearts, even if they are not show winners.
Congrats on all the eggs.Ralph, your turkeys crack me up! Ginger is GORGEOUS!
The mystery had been solved! Pebbles is the one giving me an egg every dayI saw her laying on the poop board, back in the corner, rearranging herself, trying to make herself comfy, and making silly noises so I moved her to the nest in there. About an hour later I went in to check and there's an egg sitting there in the corner on the poop board lol![]()
Now go build a bigger bator. One mystery solved and another begins. Someone else has started to lay. There was a smaller, whiter egg on the floor this morningnote to figure out who laid it lol![]()
I would agree with you but can't remember what we were talking about.Feathers fade over the course of a year plus they don't always come back with the exact same patterns and shades of colors. Chaos...I love Doms. There are a few good threads here for Doms I've been reading. I'm really interested in that breed.
Ralph. ..Speckled Sussex get more white tipped feathers the older they get.
