To have a breed recognized by the American poultry society, it must be stable( you can't have a breed producing bourbon reds and regal reds) it must be maintained for five years by five breeders if I remember correctly.... Anyone a member of the yahoo turkey genetics club? I'd like to know what bb ee rr looks like! The color calculator is just that. You are crossing breeds? Are there different breeds? I have heard some say they are all one breed with just variation in colors, is that right or wrong?
It almost seems "breeds" are kind of arbitrary. Even with chickens, take my Creamettes, They have leghorn and I have no idea what in their background. Yet they are considered a breed.
If I cross my Creamettes with a Barred rock can I just decide it is a new breed?
If Ginger was to live (which he will not) and I crossed him with another like him eventually making a blind strain of turkeys could I call them a breed?

Has anyone had problems with turkeys getting eggs stuck during laying? Mars scared the hell out of me, but it passed just wanted to see if I was somewhat justified in my initial concerns
