A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Well Big Bird started squatting this morning, darn it! The Bourbon Boys were all over that.... sigh, teenage boys  I'm going to have to come up with a plan fairly quickly for her - it was fine when they were all chilled out and no one was jumping on her but now she's outnumbered by toms. She may take up residence with my laying hens for a bit. I'm glad I have turkey tractors if I need a temporary residence in a hurry. Thankfully I'm off and home this week and can keep an eye on things.

Bessie's plucked head is looking good today - so I think it was the rooster that did it (he's been moved to another coop for a few days - and is very unhappy about it). Her head is purple from the blu kote but the cuts look to be sealing up well - and she enjoyed her bath and blowdry yesterday lol.

Glad Bessie is recovering! Poor girl...

You could put Big Bird with Turkulus. Unless you think he'd hurt himself trying to breed! :gig. Sorry...just couldn't resist!

We need pictures of the Bourbon Boys!!

Chaos....I'd be tempted to leave work early! :)

I'm pretty sure Turkules WOULD hurt himself trying to breed - that boy is not coordinated! :lau He's been behaving like a belly button for a few weeks, and has started trying to run at me when I go in the coop or run. The Bourbon Boys always put themselves in front of me when he starts behaving like a turd and will whack him with their wings. It's funny how protective they are. I'm not afraid of him - I just pick him up and hold him when he's being turd-like, but it doesn't seem to fix the behavior. He's only managed to peck me once, the other boys usually correct his attitude before he gets close enough  Will try to get pics of the Bourbon Boys this week since I'll be home during daylight hours for a change :)

Turkulus is probably at that difficult teen-age (bellybutton ) age. That's cool how the Bourbon Boys protect moma!

Not having a tom makes things pretty zen around here with just the girls. They are so funny!

This sounds like JJ when he "protects" me from the other boys. Or he is a jealous fellow and does not want to share my attention with the others.

Here are the genotypes of my hens if anyone wants to weigh in on which goes well with Holm's super Tom.

Ethel is Bd Dd Rr but I will mate her to JJ Bd Dd Rr.

I have my blue red bronze Bb Dd rr

I have one rusty Lavender hen Bb DD Rr

I have 1 Slate Blue BB Dd RR

and 6 self blue BB DD RR

..These are the Toms

JJ Bd Dd Rr

Rusty Lavender (porter) Bb DD Rr

Sidekick is Self Blue BB DD

I have a slate blue Tom but he is headed to the freezer.. Unless someone comes up with a good reason why not?

And Holm's super tom is b1b1 cgcg dd nn rr

In case any of you want to play with the matings and see what we will get. Most of the ones do not have pictures that I can find. BUT I am recovering from anesthetics so I am not up to it right now...... Besides I am playing this up for all the sympathy I can here at home.

OK Ralph, I'll give it a try.....

JJ + Ethel, 1 Self Blue, 1 Bourbon Red

Holm's Tom + 1 Blue Red Bronze & 2 Self Blue

Sidekick + 1 Rusty Lav & 2 Self Blue

Porter + 1 Self Blue & Bourbon Red ( might as well breed him while he's waiting for Coffee)

Send the remaining Slate Tom & Slate hen to Holm. He can raise the slates he will be showing.

You need a couple Red Bourbon hens. I would also love to see you add a few Royal Palm hens.
