I have a mental picture of Turkules, Penguin and Ginger bearing gifts ( candy bars and flowers) walking up R2elks drive and R2elk standing there with a shotgun telling them to peddle their wares somewhere else!

I'm not quite that bad as I prefer a .22 and a hatchet to a shotgun. Just got tired of picking pellets out of the meat.

I dont know if I can take hens right now. I am already pavked too the brim and am adding more birds from Heidi soon. Un less (I hate to say this) we waited till next year and I quick find a Royal Palm hen and I could get you hens and toms like my tom.

Ralph, any thoughts to add a Bourbon hen?

R2elk....I know you breed Slates. Do you ever add another variety, like a Bourbon, for diversity?

I really only have room for one variety at a time. Years ago I did raise Bourbon Reds but the Slates have done much better for me. I also used to keep a couple of Royal Palm hens which when crossed with my Self Blue toms would produce Mottled Self Blues that had hybrid vigor and the hens would be as big as my Self Blue toms in the fall.

I am contemplating adding a Bourbon Red hen this year (probably from hatching eggs from a place in Montana) in order to make Rusty Slate poults for sale.

I will not be adding a bourbon hen this year, I too have limited space for breeding. When they are one flock it is not a problem they just run around together.

I hope to get a bourbon red from JJ and Ethel, I think I have a 0.78125 chance of getting one. If I get one I will feel like I hit the lottery!

I got my girlie thermometer yesterday, I now have correct temps or temp targets on my thermometers!

I am so impressed and feel better knowing what my Temps have to be,,

We are free of any restrictions right now, by that I mean the special AI ones that caused us grief are gone.

I would trade a Self Blue hen for a Bourbon red hen in a second. Not sure how we could arrange that. Where in Mo are you? I am actually semi-familiar with it. I was a disc jockey for about 8 months back in 73 in Houston Mo.
