A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

It's back to running normal. I think the water issue caused super high humidity which messed with the heater in it. We ran it all night with no water after I dried it all out and it got back up to temp but it did it slowly. We bought a new container for the auto water system today and rigged it to fit. It's working great so far. We also picked up a wireless temp and humidity sensor. Humidity is hovering around 24. There's less surface area in this container but that's OK. I like lower humidity. I finally put all my eggs back in and in the process, I actualy counted how many.....there are 100 in the cabinet bator now, all turkeys. And there are 26 in my hova bator due to hatch Thursday-ish and 4 under Pebbles lol.

WOW. 130 EGGS ALREADY.
So envious.
Glad to hear your bator is running normal and was an easy fix.

Eeny Meeny Miny Moe, One gets to stay and two have to go. One of these 3 toms gets to be this year's breeder and the other two will be saying bye-bye one way or the other.
Very good looking slates. I have 3 state toms as well. One is very dominant and the yard boss. But lost my slate hens and can't find any replacements. So those 3 gonna have to go. Unless by some miracle I find some hens.

I have slate hens!!

R2elk nice looking birds. I would pick the turkey with the thickest legs for my breeder. I think, and I have no reason to think this, thick legs indicate heavier frame, which is what I want to pile more meat on.

And here is an excerpt from the MN thread on Porter. Porter needs helps!!

Judy was home today, naturally, it was good entertainment. She swept, really swept chickens and turkeys off the deck about 4 times with a broom. I laughed so hard! She was not happy with my reaction to her. Even the guinea hens were on the deck and she chased them off! After the third time she decided to shut the gate we have to keep grand kids from falling off the deck. (and to keep the dogs on the deck). I told her it would not work. It didn't, I laughed. She yelled at innocent me.

I also think I owe Coffee a refund of her money on Porter. She paid too much for him. He is damaged in the head. He flew up onto the deck after the last time Judy swept the birds off. The other toms went to hang out by their pen. Porter was dismayed at this. He first gobbled than started pacing back and forth doing that nervous " something is wrong" noise turkeys make. This went on for over an hour, I think he had worked himself up so much he was foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog, Ony he was not showing his teeth.

I finally felt sorry for him and went and opened the gate. He flies up onto the deck, and he is too stupid to fly over the railing to get down! When I opened the gate he kept up pacing he would go from the corner of the deck and then towards the gate/stairs. He would stop about 2 feet from the stairs turnaround and pace back to the corner. This went on for another 45 minutes or so. I did not mention how much this action reminded me of something Judy;s sisters would do. I ain't all dumb!

I am glad you never lost them! I had my fingers crossed. Cold is better than hot..

And super the people want more.

I have 2 little creamette hens hatched this afternoon. I have 7 more eggs in there. I am worried about one it was externally pipped at 6:30 am and has done nothing since then. With these 2 I am only 48 birds short of the orders I have.

Poor Porter! Ralph he probably just wanted attention! And the rest of the flock was just trying to see if they could get you to come out & play! Poor Judy!

Aurora, love the family came back for more. Sure is easy to get hooked on turkeys! Now ya just need to sell the upcoming 100!

Feedman, have you received your BR eggs yet?

OK R2elk....what's the verdict on the boys? I still think you should stack them on a table so we get a good look at them ! :lau

It was in the 70's here today. Decided it was time to lock the chickens out of my yard. They werent happy. They are banned now that the growing season will start soon. Did let the turkeys hang out with me. Decided to finish up some pruning, under their direct supervision. Got a ladder out and boy was that the object of much discussion! Their favorite was my Sweet Autumn Clematis! I severely pruned it creating piles of vines. They played in that pile for over an hour. No idea what the facination was, but they had a blast. It's fun gardening with the hens. They just have to check out everything I'm working on. I think I wore them out!
