A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

So, Pebbles puffed up and hissed at me a little bit earlier when I was checking to make sure she didn't have extra eggs. She didn't really do anything else though. I'm wondering if she can feel the eggs starting to wiggle under her maybe, and getting a little tense? Either that our she's sick of me checking on her lol.

I have found that when the poults are hatching or just about to hatch that my hens will talk to the little ones when I approach the nest. Before that they just sit calmly on the nest. I never bother looking for poults until I hear the hens talking to them. Of course that is also when the hens get nasty. I have pulled a bloody hand back more than once.

Good luck.

Aurora Could you please post a picture of your bloody stump for us when you check under her tonight?

I could have a major vent right now! Some people drive me a little bonkers!! Some lady had a dog come and kill a bird of hers and people started saying horrible things about pitbulls before the lady even said it was a pit. Now some other guy is trying to tell me its all the dogs fault for agressive behavior and how the dog chooses to fight or not. But I saw a nasty video of a dog fight on youtube and the owners beat those poor dogs till they fight! But anyways...

Just tell him it is the dog owner's fault since the owner failed to keep their dog under control. At my place if someone's dog shows up here after my poultry, I dig a hole and bury it.

Oh-oh! Sounds like Pebbles is hitting mommy mode! I can't wait!

Holm...it's always the owners fault. Dogs, depending on breed, are hardwired with certain traits. It's the owners responsibility to understand that.

I agree. They say all pitbulls are like that... Thats what irritates me... Our pit is nicer than any other dog we have ever had... People just dont like them... Since we have had our pit we have had three strangers tell us we should have her put down before she severely hurts someone... She has never bit anyone in her whole 9 years of life!

I hate when people say stuff like that about pits. The ones I've always known (worth the exception of my old neighbors dogs) were big loveable lugs, more likely to lick you to death than bite you. My old neighbors two pits were jerks, but so we're the neighbors. My one dog managed to get over there one day and their dogs almost tore him in half. They had him like a toy rope between them :/ Rocky was 8 then and I thought that he was going to die. He had stitches everywhere and a drain tube on the side of his face. We had to take him to an emergency vet. When the neighbor came to check on him later she said "I beat the sh*t out of my dogs". THAT is the kind of owner that ruins the name of the breed. Rocky is fine by the way. He's almost 12 now and so showing no signs of slowing down.

Got home and let the turkey girls out in the big pen. I snuck back up to the house. Poor Daisy was pacing the fence line chirping. Had to go back & spend more time with my little pin cushion. She doesn't want to be touched, just wants to sit next to me & purr. Poor girl. Can't wait for her to get over her molt. She has PFS - Pre Feather Syndrome! :D
