Interesting that the one and only color of turkey that is homozygous for all of the dominant color genes is the Self Blue. Choosing a mate with three homozygous recessive color genes will produce an offspring that when crossed with its sibling will be able to produce 27 different varieties. If you could find a variety that has four homozygous recessive color genes, the offspring from that pairing would be able to produce up to 54 different varieties.

The birds I need are not limited to sweetgrass. BUT they are one..    Matter of fact my needs are not limited to birds.. I need Dexters!  Minature  mules and donkeys...

I tried to get a pig last year ,but that was nixed by someone with an XX  in their genotype.

Argh, we had a pig for a few weeks over the summer. Hated every minute with that thing! I thought I loved all animals but apparently not. Just make sure if you do get one and it's a boar that is neutered. We had no idea that not having it neutered would affect the meat. Thank goodness we got ours butchered young (because we couldn't stand it) and it was only 100 lbs. The meat stinks when you cook it but it doesn't taste bad.

R2elk....now Ralphie will be incubating at his 500 egg capacity to try & produce 54 flavors of turkey! I do think Ralph needs a few Sweetgrass hens.......

And it was commented on by my spouse tonight. She wanted to know how long they would be in there....I told her until I move them..

I keep ours in the bedroom since my husky would kill them if they were in the living room. Hubby gave up complaining about the brooder light lol

No, it was not. We didn't know anything about that though actualy, until the other day when I decided to look up why our pork stunk.

Like all birds depends on Quality and age. Common ones are around 9 bucks as poults in this area.

My biggest problem with turkeys is that I have chickens, and from what I've read, it's not smart to keep them together because of blackhead.
