One of my neighbors brought her dad down to meet the turkeys today. She kept telling him about them & he was over visiting today and wanted to meet them. They were sweet as usual & he fell in love with them! Most people have never met a turkey before. And across the board they leave wanting a pet turkey.

Nathan - I also have both turkeys and chickens without any issues so far.

Aurora - my goodness the babies have been selling fast! Sorry to hear that the little poult didn't make it . Can't wait for pictures of the next hatch

I've been working long hours to catch up at work, which has limited my time with the birds. Big Bird barked at me tonight until I dragged my chair in so she could sit on my lap. She leaned on me, tucked her head in and went to sleep. Silly girl was apparently feeling the need for some lap time lol. I will be curious to see if she is this needy after breeding season is done or if she goes back to being an independent lady like she was before....

Nathan, I was afraid of Blackhead too. I decided the only way to find out is get the turkeys. I got JJ, Ethel and Myrtle, Myrtle died within a month or so. BUT they were all in such rough shape when I got them it is amazing any of them lived.

They lived in the cities under a deck in about 2 ft of mud and poop with 100 other birds. Their feathers were falling out and I have no idea what color they were.

I was told they were slate blues. They were not. When they finally got feathers that fall we saw they were not blues...

Just saying turkeys are tough, and if you only have three chickens, go for it the worst that happens is the turkeys get sick and may not make it. Anything other than that, and you win!

Ralph I talked to Triplell and found out some stuff about showing Legbars. She said to show them in english division in open class.

I have 14 bourbon red eggs in the incubator. Got them off ebay. Been in for 8 days. Grabbed 3 out this morning and candeled them. 2 of the 3 were showing good veining. The other was not clear but couldn't see any veining yet. Will candle them all on day 15. If the rest hold good vein percentage will be one of the best batches of ebay eggs so far.

Hey Feedman....your hatch sounds like its coming along great! I was just wondering how things were going. Keeping my fingers crossed. Yeah, my girls are sweet, and cute! Most folks are totally enthralled after meeting them. I guess its not so surprising, but most folks have never spent time with a turkey. They are usually pretty amazed at how much fun they are.

Wow they must have been tough! I have one last question, if the turkeys DID get blackhead, would it affect the chickens? Because if it did, I can't risk any disease for them, one of them is very valuable.

From what I understand, blackhead doesn't affect chickens.
