I have to tell you all something I found on BYC today.

I need my incubators for hatchers today, I had those two handicap chicks I should have dispatched as soon as possible,  I am a softy and hate doing it.

I found a painless clean way to do it by searching here.

I did it and it worked well.  It is still not fun, but it is done with some less guilt.

I used a plastic container that coiled roofing nails came in I set the chicks in the bottom  on paper towels, put a paper towel over the  opening and spayed a ton of starting fluid/ ether into the towel shut the cover and they were asleep in seconds. They are still in the box, I will keep them there an hour or so to make sure they are gone.

It was quick painless and clean.  Just incase any of you have to do it.

I've thought of doing it thar way but I have people that want the culled ones for snake feed. Do you think the chemicals would mess with the snakes at all? That's the only problem I have with it. We're going to build a gas chamber to cull with CO2

I have no idea, I would think it would dissipate over time, and if it didn't. I think the world can handle a few more dead snakes......

I have thought about using them as bait ion live traps, I wonder if the smell would turn off the wild critters?

I want to try and have a few turkeys incubate chicken eggs for me we have a bad condition in chickens that can not be fixed. The vet will uthanize all my roosters. We our looking for other options to our family. My son is disabled. So we want him to have a better life. Therapy animals for him. Food for him. Schooling for him.
