Superglue died this afternoon.

She was fine at 10 this morning.

I went to move so chicks out of the bigger brooder and checked my small chick brooder and she had passed.

Sorry Feedman77. I had to cull #21. Flipping turned into wry neck, then spraddle legs. All fixable, but too much for one chick. I think he had pneumonia too. Always sad to lose one.

Sorry you had to cull one. That harder than them just passing.

I thought she had a decent chance. After 3 days in cup. Knew I was pushing it put her in brooder she ate drank and pecked the other babies.
And was moving good.

Sometimes it just isn't meant to be.

They sometimes take breaks in laying. Is she getting enough calcium? (oyster shells)

As far as turkey wrestling goes, I have a anti wrestling device I use to gather eggs.  I have a broom handle. I taped a soup ladle to the end of it, I just push it under the turkey and pull out the egg.  They will raise a little when they hiss, so their hissing helps me steal the egg.  This is all done from 5 feet away so it is safe. I used and old broom handle but had to buy a 99 cent ladle as my wife refused to let me use the one from the kitchen.

BTW I messed up yesterday, I did not collect eggs from the one group of turkeys, so unless they sat on them they are all frozen and cracked. It is 9 degrees.

Interesting invention.  You might market that.  But I had a hen that I'm pretty certain would have snapped the broom handle in two.  She only got tighter to the eggs if I walked near by.  She was wicked mean.  She hatched one poult and nearly killed him by being overly protective.  She'd go after anything that came near him, but she'd chase them for 5 minutes.  Meanwhile, poor baby was left on his own.  I sold her.

Maybe this is where they get the expression "I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole"!

Yes, Poppyseed will be a year old May 1st. And yes, there is a calcium (oyster shell) feeder out there. Now, whether she is smart enough to eat any of it, I don't know.

That's too bad about the frozen eggs.

I have had it happen to me also. Not with a turkey but chicks. It's devastating . I get it all the time.the vet is to the point with us he just puts them down instead of ivs fluids. If we had the medical money we would set up a labatory in house.

I got turkeys last spring. I like them considerably more than my chickens.

I started with royal palms. Now I have palms. Blue slates. Bourbon reds. Spanish blacks And chocolates.

Going into spring have 17 hens and 7 toms.

Have got 50 eggs in incubators now. Hopefully . One of my hens is going broody today.

I think the bourbon boys are molting....no injuries and nothing odd on their skin anywhere....just dropping lots of feathers over the past week. I told them that they are starting to look pre-plucked. They glared at me and marched away with as much dignity as turkeys with pin feathered bellies and sparse tails can muster. I had to work until late today, so just got to put the birds to bed. Darn, I feel like I am missing out when I don't get a bit of time to play with the birds at some point in my day lol

Since I was reading through the posts and saw something about allergies (1-2 pages ago) I have a question that I had kind of forgotten about. Has anyone else had a turkey that seemed to suffer from allergies? Poor little Mars was sneezing and coughing last month during the high winds, she's better now but it was kind of funny. She'd try to talk to me sneeze and make this sound that I took as a frustrated sound.

Sorry to hear about superglue is so hard to lose one that you've put so much effort into saving.

I rescued one from the shell this morning that was pretty well glued in. He's spending an extra night in the bator and will hopefully have gained some strength by morning so he can join the others.

I lost two myself yesterday One of the little polish babies that hatched the other day and one of my young Marans outside. No clue what happened to him. My daughter found him dead in the run. I'm pretty sure it was the one that we had been calling Buddy. The only one that would come running to us to be held and cuddled. I'm guessing it may have been just too cold and he was maybe just want able to handle it. Alter that, I grabbed the other small one and took it back to the garage brooder with the next oldest chicks until they go out.
