A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I am not sure the genotypes are as you stated Copper. I normally never disagree with you, much......

But my reason for not giving a genotype in the first place is my question as to what type of black he/she has.

The white will have cc that we know, but it could have BB. Bb or bb, it could have RR, Rr or rr. It could even have slate genes, we just do not know. There is not enough information to make an educated guess.

Same on the black, is it a pure black, barred black, mottled black slate the list goes on. So many people see a black turkey and without looking at the parents and or the indicators on the bird just assume it is black.

Look at Penguin how long did we argue about what he was until we found he was a rusty Black, or was it a barred black, I forget...

If you go to the calculator with the geneotype you listed this is your results..

Gender = Female, 50%, minimum of specimens to breed: 2
Barred Black Semi-Color

Gender = Male, 50%, minimum of specimens to breed: 2
Barred Black Semi-color

But we make a 2 changes to the genotype we still have a black bird and a white bird and this is what we get. I just threw a slate gene on the white, Still a white bird.. and a recessive B on the black making a barred black and presto...

Another thing is that there are far too many Black Slates being passed off as Black Spanish.

I agree. I asked on Porter's genetics site about "what exactly is a Black Spanish" the answers I got were amazing. Basically anyone with a black bird of any kind called it a "black Spanish".

There is no APA listing of it at all so the definition is wide open.

My "Turducken" hatch. And a couple of pictures of my last hatch too. So far on the new hatch 7 Americans, 3 chocolate poults, 2 silkie chicks, and 1 Muscovy duckling so far!

I'm home and I'm sick. I let Daisy & Annie out to graze in the big yard. Sat out there with them for quite awhile. No sign that either bird needed to lay an egg. All was calm & sunny. Went into the house & fell asleep. Thunder and someone frantically beating on my door woke me up. Daisy had hopped the 6 foot fence & was four yards down the road. I ran down there in a hurricane with no shoes. I finally saw her & started calling her. She called back, but did start heading toward me. I grabbed her & made the run home. No idea if it was the storm or the need to lay an egg that made her hop the fence. Most of my neighbors know her. Just grateful she stopped in the poring rain to let me know she was loose.
