A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Ralph I believe the display was a direct result of them not being familiar with my wife. All in all it was a successful ploy. To seal the deal on any of my future exploits,ie.more birds requires an attack on two fronts. I start by dropping comments about the next breed,as my wife cannot help but disseminate the information this leads to my 83yr old mother-in-law excerting her considerable influence on my wife's thought process. The mother-in-law,who I love dearly, grew up on a poor farm in Mexico. She successful raised 8 kids (by herself) and still works 3days a week. Her difficulties and hardships in life have gave her a decidedly "prepper" mentality. So ANYTHING I do that feeds the family from home she is ALL FOR!!

The woman is a survivor and still hustles. She has convinced a large part of her church members that store bought eggs are "evil" lol This means that every week i send her "healthy good eggs" that she then sells. I refuse to accept any of the money which she then stuffs in a box with a big smile that makes my day. My wife doesn't have a chance :)

Glad you have your wife handled JR, we all know how dangerous an unbridle wife is...

I have shut my incubator down. Long story short, I dropped the last egg when moving it from the incubator to the hatcher. I blame it on the keets in the hatcher. It was one egg alone, so I skipped the way I normally do it. A few keets wanted to jump out. I went to stop them but the egg slipped to the concrete floor.

It is suppose to hatch tomorrow. I was late moving it because of the keets. I had thought a single turkey hatching would make a great house pet for a while. I was going to spoil this one.

Now it doubt it will hatch. I have my fingers crossed, but the egg is all shattered and the poult is only kept inside by the membrane. What will be will be.

This year I did not do well on the turkey hatch. I still have more than I know what I will do with. I plan to start advertising started poults/teen turkeys soon. I kind of want to get my breeding pens for next year done before I do sell them.

I also need to try to figure out how to set up a web page and take payments over it. I need a nerdy kid!

R2Elk, You were right. When you said you had always had good hatches from them, last year I did not do 20%. This year I did over 90%. I have keets everywhere! Way too many.

If my wife ever counts them I will be moving in with JR. I know I am over 100 now. I bet all total I have 300-400 birds here.

Most will be going though before winter. The one thing I can be sure of, is it is costing a small fortune to feed them all! I Was going to count how many bags of feed I go through in a day, when feeding last night, but I forgot to after the 3rd one. If I was not free ranging so many I would not be able to afford it.

The good thing is I have very few bugs here!

BTW do not worry about them being over crowded, Not the case, They do not even have the vegetation down in most of the area. They can not be too hungry they spend most of their days laying in the sand and sunbathing. I have a whole field (about 5 acres loaded with grasshoppers and bugs they refuse to even go into) Lazy bums!

The only bird in the field is Ethel and her babies..

BTW Ethel lost a baby yesterday, she was down to 5 at bed time...BUT the PC gained one she was up to 14. I have no idea which one is the wrong one. They all look alike. None of them wanted out. Ethel did not seem to notice the loss.

I am guessing it just decided to runaway from home.

I lost a poult yesterday too. It just had to jump on the stock tank for a drink, and of course it fell in and drowned. My hens hatched 15 poults, so far I've lost 2, one to drowning and one to getting smoshed by horses. Annabelle and Rosabelle are always taking the poults out into the horse peen to play in the chokecherry bushes.

Bantam-sorry you lost another one :( they tend to be too adventurous for their own good.

Ralph-check out weebly.com. it's really simple to use. That's what we used to make our website. I really need to get on it and edit or page lol. I hope your cracked egg hatches for you.

Good morning All,, I just had to drive into town to post how proud I am of my Porter I am so Happy Ralphie had a mini fart to The brain and let me have him. I will try and post a pic of him soon He is Big and Beautiful and King of the farm.. I love reading everything you all post and I wish I could post more but as Ralphie mentioned my Internet is super bad. Hopefully that will change soon . Here is what I drove into town to say,,, Ohh Porter does Love Me .. I was taking out the scrap bowl and I dumped it and I was walking away and I got about 5 ft towards the house and I felt the Red Rooster attack me from behind , he was scratching my ankle and hanging on to my pant leg with his beak. I turned around and hit him with the bowl. And before I knew it Porter ran over jumped on the rooster and beat the crap out of him. The rooster was screaming but I didn't care I was letting Porter handle it. and after a minute the rooster got away he looks kind a messed up but I was proud of my Porter he protected mama. I have a pretty big scratch across my ankle but hopefully that rooster learned a lesson. Porter will get to raid the strawberry patch today and I think I will open the raspberry patch today also just for him.. :). Have a good day all stay safe and happy...

Good luck with the egg Ralph! If the membrane didn't break there's still a chance. I once accidentally cracked an AC egg all the way around the middle a few days before hatch, and it still made it, so :fl

Ralph, I don't have a handle on her, just a really good work around. Lol
I hope your egg hatches,if you can keep the membrane moist you may pull it off.
