A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

They look good JR!

Daisy saw a hawk. She fluffed up & did that whine. Every chicken slowly sank to the ground. I was sitting next to her & didn't see it at first. I got up & wandered around looking through the trees & still didnt see it. I figured she was being overly dramatic. But she wouldn't quit. I FINALLY saw it, ran toward it throwing sticks & it flew off. It was high up in the canopy. Always surprises me how good their eyesight is!

Check it out - Big Bird's broken beak is healing up pretty fast....she no longer has an underbite :p

@memphis. Some pics of the Sicilians :). Still working on growing adult feathers, but gives you an idea what they are like.

Hey guys! It's been awhile...
Not sure if I posted or not, but I tried to get Griffin a couple of hens. They were NOT sexed and there was no guarantee, but they were 1-2 months old, and I figure I could guess. I got the smallest, lightest (wattle and snood) and went with it.
I've had them two months now, and am starting to question one of them.
I have not heard a gobble, but BOTH of them have puffed up at a rooster that challenged them. They are in with Griffin, and neither have challenged him.
One of them is noticeably bigger and redder than the other, but not to the extent that's screaming roo. I'll post some pics in a little bit to give you a better idea.
Being around a constantly gobbling year old tom, I think they would have tried to gobble by now, but again, I'm new to turkeys...

The first is the one I'm questioning. Third I'm pretty sure is a hen. Second is both :-D
They are the same age.

I believe you have one of each. First definitely looks to be a tom and the last looks like a hen.

I was very suspiscious about the first one, but was still holding out hope for him to be a hen. They are all SO sweet, but I can't keep two toms and one hen

I had an Elmer Fudd moment tonight.

We are going to the Benton County Fair to look at the birds. My DW the WWD was working and when she got home she had some charting to finish. I was putting the birds away.

My main concern is the turkeys as they do not always like to go into the coop. I brings some corn/oats and BOSS into the run and dump it. I have 9 adult turkeys right now. I thought I had them all in the run. I counted heads, I only got 8. I counted again, 8.

I went looking all over the farmyard, no turkey hen. I looked in all the normal spots no turkey. Judy came out of the house and asked what I was looking for.

I told her, "I am missing a hen, I suppose she has decided to go broody on a nest somewhere".

She asks me " You're missing a hen?"

I said "Yep, I have spent 20 minutes looking for her and cannot see a sign of her".

Then she says " Does it happen to be the one following you?

I turn around and there she is 4 feet behind me. Just following me around the yard. Stupid bird!
