A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I can't imagine living anywhere other than here (except maybe the beach). I love the mountains, the woods, the scenery, all of it. I guess just because I grew up here, I'm used to the humidity in the summer and is my favorite season of the year. I'm one of those people who gets cold easy so I like the heat and if it gets too hot, go jump on the lake or pool for a while lol. It's winter and snow and ice that I don't like. I love to see it out the window, beautiful! But I get so cold, so easy, that I'm inside next to the heater with 2 sweatshirts, slippers and a blanket lol.

I get to experience Oregon next summer. That should be neat I think. My brother is getting married at the top of Mt Batchelor so we will get to see the wedding and the sights :)

I don't think I've ever lived anywhere damp. We visited my great grandfather while he was still alive in Iowa. I felt like the air was so thick I could scoop it! Sweat wouldn't evaporate! It was like being in a sauna, and the only way you could cool off was a cool shower. The whole thing blew my 12 year old mind!

I knew that by the way you described our humidity. Had you lived where Memphis does you would have been rejoicing in the nice day when you where at Holm's!

I am a shoulder season person. I like fall and spring, they just do not last long enough.

I wish I had a fully heated garage or building for my chicks, and a way to keep waterers from freezing other than that I do not mind most winter days.

I experienced Oregon a couple times. I flew to Portland for a Scrabble tournament a few years ago and I took a trip with my son when he was 12 on the Goldwing. We stopped and went swimming in some park just outside of Portland, swimming in a river was a neat memory for my son. We camped on some public land east of Portland a 100 miles or so, it was completely miserable "camping" after a day on a MC. I needed a bed, my son loved the camping under the stars. He has never been normal since.

I liked Oregon once I got away from Portland. I thought Portland was too damp and cold.

We'd be flying in to Portland but we'll be staying in Bend since that's where they live. It should definitely be an interesting trip. Hubby is the only one whose ever been on a plane and that was for military lol. Well be traveling with my parents too. It'll be fun but a 3 ring circus too. Between my hubby, dad, and my brother, I'm not sure any of them will remember the trip. They will be sampling all the different beers and alcohols available lol.

You might be thinking of old time flying. There is not a lot of selection on planes anymore, and if there is it is in first class.

I find it amazing when people say they have never been on a plane. I suppose that is because of my flying career and how much time I have spent in planes. My kids were here last weekend, and my daughter was wanting to turn me in for child abuse. She said it was abusive the way I would strap them into a seat on the plane and then take students up. She says she was scared to death during the maneuvers. She forgets to mention all the cool places she got to visit.

As long as I had an open seat my Boss did not mind my taking them with. Most of the Doctor's liked have kids with on the parts runs.

The cold here is entirely different than the cold you get in PA. I experienced bone chilling miserable cold in PA at only -6°F. Here I have spent a lot of time outside without a coat on -20°F on calm sunny days. If the sun is shining and the wind isn't blowing it can be very comfortable out in minus temperatures because of the lack of humidity.

I can remember the nights back in PA when the high humidity would make it nearly impossible to sleep. Everything soaked and mold growing everywhere.

A dry heat and a dry cold are so much more comfortable than a humid heat or cold.

@memphis I can sympathize with the humidity you have to deal with. It is miserable.

I have been to Gettysburg. The whole state has lots of wonderful sights and one of my fondest memories was the annual trip to Chambersburg to get peaches. They were so much better than what I can get in the stores here.

They won't let me on a plane. They would want me to give up most of the items I carry in my pockets and it isn't going to happen. I don't go anywhere without my knives in my pockets.

You need to learn to fly yourself, You can take whatever you want on your own plane. I have more time flying with a sidearm than without one.

My dad was a member of the local airplane club, and for a fee, you get to use a plane, as long as you get the license to fly it. I remember barfing nearly every time we landed. He gave up flying to keep great grandma's ranch in the family. It's up near Winnett MT.

Flying clubs are a great way to own a part of several planes so you can "rent" the plane you want normally when you want, for a very reasonable rate. I was the flight instructor for several clubs for years. Which allowed me use of their planes without the buy in. It was a great racket, back in the 80]s and 90's the insurance companies gave the club a break on Insurance if they had a flight instructor with X number of hours. Unfortunately some of the paying members found out and became flight instructors themselves.......ruining my gig.

However, most of them never put in the time or money to get multiengine, instrument instructor ratings which meant I still got some flying but not the amount I had prior for the rate it was prior.
