A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Unfortunately Coco is still prolapsed, no egg today though. She still seems active and eating, so I'm going to hold strong and let it play out.

We are freezing here in the 20's the last couple of days. My stupid waterers are freezing and I don't have heated versions (never needed them last year, never went below freezing). Grrrr! Brought all the water containers in tonight to thaw, and will put them back out in the morning. Guess it's a good thing I'm not getting many eggs - they'd probably freeze :)

I ma sorry to hear this, I had hoped it would pull in by now. I am trying to remember how long my chicken had hers out. It was quite a while. You are lucky it is cool and fly strikes are less likely.

As I recall the hen disappeared for a couple days then came back all healed. Maybe she went and saw a faith healer, I know Judy and I had thought she died when she reappeared.

Keeping my fingers crossed that Coco pulls through! I've never had a prolapsed turkey, so I'm afraid I can't offer any help. At least she doesn't seem to be in pain.

Turkeys are evil creatures. They are passive-aggressive by nature. I have two examples today. The one I posted a picture of is the first. He was the only turkey on the deck today. I am convinced he came onto the deck to see if "she" was home. They did not want to be on the deck, when they found out it was just me home and I do not care, they stayed off the deck.

They went and huddled in the coop as to how to get under my nerves. They know bedtime is my button to be pushed. I went out to put them to bed and there were three turkeys outside. One was on the fence roosting already, or what I thought was roosting actually he was the bait. I was the mark.

They know when they start to roost I put them to bed. He sat on the rail fence and waited for me to chase him to bed. Two of the three turkeys went into the coop. The third took off running around the coop with me chasing her. She knew I would follow her. During that time the 2 that went inside came out with a dozen or so friends so I could chase them all in again. One went into the woods, One went around the Guinea Gulag. One flew up on the roof of the coop. From their earlier reconnaissance that I was home alone and there was no way for me to be on both sides of them.

20 minutes later they get tired of the game and go into the coop. I am starting to hate turkeys! BTW the gang leader is a reddish tailed slate of some kind, or as I like to call her "holm's future problem".

Ralph...been thinking about your turkey tuck-in technic. When I go out to see the girls they get all excited & run around twirling & flapping. After a bit of being silly they calm down & hang out with me and start their bedtime preening. They follow me to the coop & get a small treat. Why dont you go out about an hour prior to bedtime & hang out with them a bit. Just sit in a chair & socialize a bit. Turn Snitch into a lapper to keep you cozy!

Ralph - love the "deck turkey" pic! I think your turkeys are making sure that you get your daily cardio in before bed.... three laps around the bird pens to get your heart rate up and a little bit of arm waving and obstacle jumping to ensure a full-body workout :p They just have your best interests at heart!

Because it is 15 degrees with a 40 MPH wind and I would freeze to death.

They run and follow me all day but at bedtime they become bellybuttons.

I know its cold Ralph...hence the hen warmer! ;)

Maybe Feisty is right. Or maybe they just get a kick out of messing with you!
