but at least the winds not howling.

it's 13 here now just started snowing hard and steady. wind blowing around 20 mph.

I swear I have 10 of the dumbest chickens on the planet. they were huddled up against the pen fence. So started moving them to a pens for the night. but they would scatter and some I got into a pen the others would be right back to the same spot on the fence laying back down.

got the all in and they huddled back up on the ground. there was plenty on roost bars and dog houses to get in or on. but they wanted the ground. so I left them.

my turkeys roosted down the pen edge. 2 rooster in a tree. they wouldn't go inside either.

hopefully I don't have turkey and chicken popcicles in the morning.

R2elk the proper first aid for a turkey like the one that hit the window is to immediately inject it with lead to speed the healing.

Now, now Ralphie, these guys eat those nasty collared doves that have taken over and pushed the mourning doves out. I am sure that this is the same hawk that I watched eating a collared dove a few days ago. They also help the magpies clean up all the starlings that I shoot.

I have no concerns about that boy. He won't be here once breeding starts and may even be gone before Christmas. He will absolutely not come within several feet of me even with my back turned. The Sweetgrass tom on the other hand can actually be touched without freaking out.

I have a few that are going to move into the house on Tuesday if all goes as planned. A few toads are going to come in too, depends on how ambitious I feel how many.

I know a couple need to come in for Christmas and New Years for sure.

Geez! Its currently 73 degrees here. We are under a tornado watch. Severe thunderstorms, damaging winds & hail expected within the next few hours. Once that initial line passes, the temperature falls and we are expecting ice. What the heck! I hate weather like this.

I heard squealing the other day and Adam was mating Mary and lately Cuddles will squat every time I touch her lol. I'm hoping that the girls are going to start laying soon. R2Elk - Beautiful birds, and awesome pictures as always! My birds need to take lessons in being outside from yours - it's probably 25 out and they are all staring at the open door like the devil's out there.

Feedman - hopefully all your birds stay frost-free overnight (silly places to roost when it's cold out). I did think your bird looked like JJ - if he's a rusty slate, he can make all kinds of pretty babies right??

Well we're hoping for getting above freezing tomorrow or Monday - we'll see what happens, the weather predictions out here have been so far off this year so far I have some outside work to do before I fly away south, so I'm hoping that it actually warms up so I can get it done in relative comfort

The new inside additions (the parrots) are adjusting well so far. I have some sore spots on my fingers from biting, but we're making good progress on that now. But dang - those little beak leave bigger holes than anything the chickens and turkeys have ever done to me

home for the weekend. One of the neighbors walked over abd asked me how hard it was to train my Turkeys...... Duhhhhh..... It seems that 4 of the neighbors have taken to watching the turkeys and discussing how well "TRAINED" they are amongst themselves. They get on top of everything in MY yard,but NEVER leave my yard.... I told him it wasn't real hard to do.....

Tell me again what kind of parrots you got? I've been hand feeding a group of budgies for the past month. Two of them went to their homes today. It's always fun giving the families their mini lesson in bird care and how to make sure the babies transition well to their new environment. Especially this time because I am keeping one for myself finally. Usually I only keep back ones for breeding, so I don't tame mine. They live in the basement. But this one is going to live upstairs with the family, and I get to follow all of my own advice that I give to customers on taming and training. I am hoping I can teach him to talk.

Well, as for the poultry, I had a problem tonight at lock up time. Where I found Cornbread's body was in my hoop coop. Apparently if you are a chicken and a bird dies in your home, you refuse to go in there to sleep that night. I had to chase down and grab 7 of the 8 chickens that live in that coop and physically push them in and close the door on them. They were all trying to sleep in trees and on fences. Normally if they try to do that, I can make them jump to the ground and then herd them in their door. This time they avoided their door like there was a monster in there and ran every way but in. Then the Redcap rooster flew up so high in the tree that I had to leave him there. I hope he doesn't get sick out in the weather all night. These Redcaps are not as hardy as normal chickens.
