A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Wanted to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I fly out tomorrow :cd and lose Christmas Eve day in transit.

Ralph - did you get your tickets or did the postal service keep them???

I'll probably be on periodically to get my turkey/poultry fix - so please post lots of pictures, some of us will need them :D. Spent most of my day with the birds today, cleaned out the barn really well and put a new roof over half of the hens outside run. DH will look after everyone, but he doesn't give them the same amount of attention that I do. I did tell DH that he could send Turkules to freezer camp while I'm gone - he won't have the patience to put up with his shennanigans every day. Unfortunately Turkules has had every opportunity to get over his attitude, but it's been a year and he still attacks everyone he sees (including me). It's probably long overdue, but I've been procrastinating :/

Merry Christmas, Feisty! Have a fun trip!

Merry Christmas Feisty ( and the rest of you)

It appears my ticket was stolen. I hope which ever postal employee has it enjoys my trip to New Zealand.

I had a wild turkey in my yard this morning, it was walking back and forth in front of the coop. When I went out on the deck to take its picture it walked towards me almost like a domestic turkey would. I know it is a wild one though because when I yelled bedtime last night every one of my turkeys went to bed. I know my well behaved turkeys would not hide in a tree over night and miss bedtime...

Well both of my hens were laying down last night (like the first night) got them both separated out now into cage in garage. Gave cayenne powder in feed last night. Gonna try to get meds from vet or where ever I can find it today. Man I hope I don't lose both of them. They weren't acting quite as bad as the first time though. Both were running around the yard and not acting like they couldn't stay awake. Just laying down every few seconds. They would walk around for a minute at most then lay down. Really starting to think it may not be illness but squatting like you suggested. It's just odd they act normal all day then around 4-5:00 they started the laying down. Not closing eyes or holding beak open. Normal poo from both. I just don't know. Going to watch again today and see how they act. Thank you all again for all the excellent info. You calmed my panic and have helped me so much.

I am assuming that you either miscounted them last night or you didn't count them at all.

Well the birds had a good morning here - I cleaned out the fridge and chopped up all the veggies for the ladies. I figured that I'd better get them out - or they would walk out on their own when I get home :p. DH isn't terribly reliable about noticing stuff in the fridge needing to come out. I was very popular with everyone - they got big bowls of veggies, meal worms and scratch. Now killing several hours at the airport....boring. Going to miss my birds!!

Hope you have a wonderful trip.

Well both girls are acting normal this evening. Gave some fresh water and feed since they are in a cage away from feeders. Both were calling non stop for the other birds-even though the others are all chickens and don't think they speak turkey! Haha but poo looks fine and so do they. Will give it another day or two and then figure out if I'm putting them back with chickens till spring. Looking like it was all a big false alarm or they were tricking me into getting put in garage out of the cold and rain. Which after reading some of the posts on here I wouldn't doubt at all!! Again thank you all for your help.
