A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Well been on a tour for a few days.... had to catch up on my reading!

Congrats R2Elk and Aurora on your awards :)

I'm having bird withdrawal here - was talking to DH on FaceTime tonight and asked him to take me out to the barn on his phone so I could see the birds. He growled, said the birds were long ago in bed and asked if I knew how cold it was at home (apparently having a blizzard or something?). So no-go on saying hi to the ladies....

Found a flock of roosters at the park, and took pictures of some ducks and geese today (while I was supposed to be paying attention to something else) :)

But it's been lovely so far and the scenery is amazing (the sunshine too)!

Post some more turkey pics so I can get a fix?

Fiesty....wow! That pic looks like a travel poster! Oh I can just imagine your DH when you asked to facetime your turkeys! :gig. Too funny! Love it!

Aurora...holding you to the picture promise! :D

feisty: oh. to be on the beach. so envious. sorry you missed facetiming with your birds.

Holm. interested as well to see what Mr. T produces as poults. pics when they hatch and grow.

My tom were having a snood pulling match this morning. Starting to get a little more less tolerant of each other daily.

noticed a couple of my yearling hens heads have started to get redder and have a lot more blue starting to show. So maybe they are getting closer to laying a few eggs.

Went to lowes and bought some solar pathway lights and a flood light. have them attached to my quail pen to see if light helps them start laying.

For lights on my chicken pen I ordered 2 large dusk to dawn solar pole lights. gonna mount one on shed and the chicken house.

Gonna try the solar as I don't have elec. where my birds are.

Turkey pics, as promised :)

Apparently, the ducks don't love ALL turkeys. I let Eve out for a bit and the ducks were not happy about it. They only like palms and mottled blacks apparently.

I thought I posted here last night, Here is Snowflake waiting to be picked up by Coffee,

Snowflake is so meek and mellow when I picked her off the roost she just laid her head against me like she was scared and I was comforting her, nevermind I am the one that ripped her off her roost...

And this is Snowflake in her new home.

She only wants another hen or two. When she talked to me she did not want anymore Toms as she has "Porter" and "Porter Jr". When she saw the royal palms she wanted one of them (but I am not ready to decide which one to keep yet). By the time they left they wanted a RP hen and a RP Tom and said they were going to send Porter Jr to freezer camp...

I got the 14 dollar digital thermostat installed on the one 1202..

Works great, was some work to do. Heat comes on at 99 and goes off at 100. I am happy.

I had to do a rewire to get it working loosely following R2elks suggestions. Basically I needed to split and run a power supply 120v to the unit. Then hook the heating element up in series while hooking the heat light indicator parallel to the heating element.

The instructions are near useless, being written by someone in China that never really learned to read and write English. It said it would hole within .05 degrees. That is a lie. also you cannot set 99.5 as a temp must be whole numbers. But works great when set to 100.

Getting it to read F instead of C took 45 minutes.

I knew it! I knew i was supposed to be getting eggs by now! I found these treasures hidden in the back of the loft in the turkey coop. I can see now that I'm definitely going to have to fence that off since it's too far back for me to reach and not strong enough to hold someone's weight. By the looks of them, they're from my older girls and at least 2 girls are laying :)

You can add Pennsylvania to the list of states with turkeys laying :)
