A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Since you are in Wyoming we are neighbors. I'd better not let Esther see what sweetgrass turkeys look like or we will be driving south.

I like this idea~!!

You drive south.. get 3 sweetgrass... Keep them until Your Mom can certify them as disease free and get an import permit to Minnesota,,,then bring them to me!!

Montana is one of those states that requires an import permit along with either NPIP certification or a Veterinary Certificate of Health including a current blood test. I had the opportunity to sell some guineas to people in Montana so I looked into the requirements and decided it wasn't worth the hassle to do everything required to make the guineas legal for them to take back to Montana with them.

Here is a shot of my Sweetgrass when they were younger in case you missed it.

Yes...go for it!! Esther needs a sweetgrass or three!! I just love it when kids are so invested in their turkeys!! The 6 year old here is still trying to convince her dad she needs turkeys.

Turkey-Tuck-In-Time here is easy! But then again I only have two! They come with me to lock up the chickens, then we walk to their pen & they hop right in. They get a small bedtime snack. If I'm late, the chickens go to bed themselves & the turkeys are roosting on my back porch rail waiting.

R2elk....love sweetgrass, mottled & narri's!! Feedman....have you hatched me a narri hen yet??

Which is why I suggested Esther and her Grandmother the Vet!! Or does the Vet need to be licensed in the state of origin? I do not think that matters here.

BTW I have the form from Montana. I bought a permit last year and this year they sent me a form for an annual permit. I think it was 4 bucks.

I tried to get Snitch to take a treat from my hand last night. She sits on my lap but refuses to eat from my hand, when I put the treat in her mouth she spits it out half the time.

Today she is going to have a congenial visit. She is laying an egg every other day. I hope the ones I have are not fertilized. I want some Blues and she is my best young blue.

AND I KNOW WHERE YOU CAN GET A NICE TOM!!!!

The required blood test for Montana has to be completed before the poultry enters Montana and I believe the Veterinary Certificate of Health has to be from the state of origin.
.
The simplest method for you is to get the Sweetgrass from the same place that I did. You already know that he (Porter) is NPIP and you have turkeys from him. He is selling Sweetgrass hatching eggs this year but is not advertising poults for sale. His only advertised poults are hatchery choice assortments this year.

I did not think he was selling them this year..

And even though they come from Porters I like what you do with yours, I think your standards improve everything you breed...

He may sell poults from specific breeds this year but only through special arrangements made by contacting him. I believe that they are $15.99 per poult through this arrangement.

My problem going forward will be finding a source for a different bloodline of Sweetgrass that did not originally come from Porter.

Thank you for the compliment.

Gee whiz, so much for a trip south. Way to dash hopes, r2elk. Anyways, my mom gets wierd about the turkeys just because my husband is so allergic to them and the allergy shots only include dander from chickens, ducks and geese, and the waterfowl dander shots are useless to me. There are no allergy shots for turkey. But it doesn't stop Esther! She has dad's heart in her hand and she knows it, which is why we have turkeys at all!

I have made some choices!

Snitch is in a pen having a fling, the problem is Snitch and the Tom are kind of stupid and not doing what they are suppose to do. I think the Tom is so use to being 3rd in line to the throne he is afraid to breed.

I also pulled out the RP hens and have them in a pen with a RP Tom. I ended up taking the Tom that wants to stalk me. I really wanted the other one, but when I started looking carefully the stalker had a better frame and way better undercarriage on him.
