A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Hello, first time posting on this thread. I have 25 bourbon red turkeys currently. 36 eggs are due to hatch in 2 weeks. All of my birds graze on 1 acre of clover and alfalfa. Sometimes I thick that I spoil them too much.

Hi Mountain Bourbons! Welcome to the thread! You know....we love pictures! Sounds like you have the perfect place for Bourbons. One of mine is a Bourbon. She's quite a character.

Rjohns...we had more of a wind event vs. a storm event. Lots of big trees down. But all well at my house...

Mountainbourbons: welcome to the thread. Good luck on this batch of eggs. Know you had some struggles with your last batch from other threads.

Rjohns: made it thru good. No damage. About 3 inches of rain over a couple hours. Got up this morning looked like I had a house at the lake.

I'm feeling a little discouraged tonight. I opened the cabinet to gather up whatever poults have hatched and pulled out 7 poults but found 8 eggs. My hatching tray in the bottom is just one of the turner trays so this isn't exactly perfect fitting in there. One of the little poults hatched but got caught in the mechanics and strangled :( I know that things happen but I feel terrible. All that time developing in to a beautiful, healthy baby and successfully hatching to be strangled to death just after. I will be investing in an actual hatching tray for the cabinet for those special occasions when I DO have to use it to hatch. There are still 10 eggs left down there. I will check it one more time before bed and try to cram the last of the eggs in to the hatcher so I don't worry about the babies the rest of the night. Sorry for my rant but I needed to vent a minute.

The hatching tray for a 1202 is just the same as the trays that go on the turner.

The only difference is that it does have a lid for it.

They are not designed for poults and make the little ones have to stoop when the lid is on.

They do sell a plastic hatching tray that is really nice and deep but it won't fit the old 1202.

It is too long to fit the old 1202 models. The other problem is that it cannot be in the incubator if the turner is on. Because of it being 5" tall, it will cause the turner to bind.

I did buy the plastic hatching tray, opened one end, shortened it and re-bent it along with putting the staples back in. It now fits my old 1202 very nicely and prevented any escapees. I could only use it if the turner was off so it was worthless for staggered hatches.

Since I now have a hatcher, I use it as a spare bottom tray in the hatcher.

Good luck.

. I'm sorry you feel bad. I would too. I hope you find a good solution, and can sleep tonight.
