A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I pop them in a carton and save them for a week on top of the incubator and don't touch them again until they go in lol. I don't worry about turning them or rotating. They just sit there like little lumps. I've done it for up to 2 weeks before setting with no issues and almost always still have 99% develope

I also pop them into a carton and don't touch them again until I want an omlet. Sorry, couldn't help myself!

I have a broody! On the window sill of my bathroom! Its a robin! Was getting ready for work yesterday morning & movement at the window caught my attention. Saw these skinny little bird legs! Got home last night & she had the nest almost done. No eggs, but she was flying to and fro last night.

You do all make me laugh!

as for round here I have people ask if you can actually eat turkey eggs?!

Turkeys are just not common and generally got bad press from what people have heard.

Also it scares me to hear of you dealing with tornadoes!
And on a regular basis! I mean I find it crazy to think of.
Hope everyone stays safe.

Anyway Delilah has started laying again and I'm planning on popping them in the incubator.
I've read a lot of different ways to store before and about turning during.

Could you possibly simplify for me please.

I use to set eggs in the turntables for the foamies when I stored them but I only have 4 turntables and they do not hold enough eggs. So now I just put them in cartons and move them when I think about it. I have not noticed much difference in the hatch rate.

I set eggs every week. The longest they would sit is 9 days. If I am switching hatching from Thursday to Sunday.

Kate are you from Scotland or of Scottish descent? Turkeys are by far the coolest poultry around.

Kate, Ralphie is right....turkeys are too cool!

Speaking of tornadoes....FEEDMAN ARE YOU OK?? There was some bad weather in his area a few days ago. Hope all is ok.....

While we all have our own methods of storing hatching eggs, you can't go wrong using the methods described in Hatching 101. Scroll down to the Collection, WASHING & Storage of Eggs section and click on the link to show the information.

That being said, I use the carton method with one end elevated stored in my unheated basement for as long as needed to collect the amount of eggs I wish to incubate. I try to turn the eggs 3 times daily but being an old fart, it doesn't always happen. I try not to store eggs for more than 14 days but...

I do move the eggs to a warm area while waiting for the incubator to heat up and stabilize. I typically turn the incubator in the morning and set eggs in the evening

Good luck.

Finnie, the map I'm looking at suggests that zionsville will be in the yellow (rain and some wind), maybe the outskirts of orange.  I suspect lebanon should be all yellow.

Those are both west of us. Sometimes we get their weather, and other times it veers northeast and misses us. Pretty much the worst weather we got yesterday was pouring down rain when I came out of the grocery store with my cart.

Feisty, we are waterlogged here too. It looks like it will keep raining all day today. We trimmed trees on Sunday too! Swan was sitting on her nest under the burn pile, but Muffin followed us everywhere we went.

I have been lucky so far, because Swan has come off of her nest every evening and gone back to the pen. I do have a small area with a doghouse in it (almost) ready to lock her into if it becomes necessary. My new habit of feeding them their scratch grains inside the pen just before dark, and then shutting the door has made bedtime so much easier. No more pulling chickens out of the trees, or picking Swan up off of the hoop coop.

I think he's ok, just busy with his tough work schedule. His profile says he was on at 7:43 this am. Maybe he just didn't feel like posting. Hey @feedman77 , are you ok?!

Memphis: bad storms missed us or I slept thru it. So much rain about to have my own castle with a moat. Flooded across highway from my house.
