I'm getting to where can't count anymore thought my incubator trays held 30 for yellow and 25 for reds.

Was hatching turkeys and kept coming up wrong number of eggs pitched and hatched. They are 25 and 20. That was after I counted them a couple of times to be sure.

Hatched 15 out of 19. Three died in incubator after hatch.

So 12 fuzzy babies in the brooder.

Ok Folks, I'm going out on a limb here. Here's the recipe I use for starter. 3 weeks on this and then 5 weeks on the second recipe. You should be able to take it to your local mill and get them to mill it for you.

Turkey Starter - 24% 3 Weeks

Use 3/16 screen in hammermill
All Grains Ground

Don't know if it helps or not but something to think about. I'm a non-GMO kind of a guy--if that's not important to you, then don't require it. Avoid "processed soy".

That's just cos you hatch more in a week than the rest of us do in a year.

I've lost about 4/100 chicks I've raised so far. One to drowning, one to a brooder accident, one to prolapsed intestines, and one to a suspected yolk infection.

I have baby chicks 1 to 2 weeks old.

Have lost 7 in that time. Fine then dead the next day. Sometimes it just happens.

This pertains to mountainbourbons post. How many keep chicks out poults on straw?

I've read that straw is bad for the insides of young birds if they eat it.

I keep mine on wood chips may have lost some on them but don't know for sure.

Grats,,I have a bunch of turkeys in the hatcher, No idea how many I will pull them tomorrow... I am guessing around a dozen,,,ish

I know this will seem callous to some, I want the weak to die off, It makes for a stronger breeders and saves me money in the long run,,,

@MontainBourbons Another thing I watch for is baby turkeys eating bedding rather than food. I moved away from fine wood chips to large flakes cause they would eat the bedding not the food. I also give them a little sand and grit mixed with food early on. A friend of mine pairs each poult with 5 chicks to teach them not to commit suicide. Friends who have been in the turkey business for a long time all sware that for the first 8 weeks the only thing on the poult's mind is how to find a new way to commit suicide.
