A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

If it comes down to where I need to be too hands on and am not seeing results, I would have no problem culling a bird... I ended up having to cull 5 silkies I hatched out due to getting run over by other chicks and were too weak to even stand.... if it is fixable and am able to raise em up and sell them or the meat (turkeys) with a clear conscience then I will do so....

I cull sick birds, no questions asked.... Injured ones, the line gets fuzzy for me. Often, I'll fix them up because I feel bad for them.
I'm in the same boat... I have one of my newly hatched birds with a dislocated hip, as in foot is aft -- but he's learning how to walk with it and vibrant. Have turkey that hatched within the last day or so with what appears to be wry neck. Trying to treat it and see if it makes it.

I have another turkey in the bator that's trying to hatch--but shell seems to be still attached to its neck. Will give it another day or two to see what happens.

R2, Bator question... I have about 8 eggs that still look viable, candling--but no smell from them. But the bator definitely stinks right now. Is that from the new hatch or do I have a bad egg in there somewhere? I'm going to candle the RIW eggs tomorrow and will be sniff testing as well.

If you think you smell a stinker it's would be best to try and find it.

If you can smell it. The next scenario is an overfilled water balloon that got dropped. But the smell associated with a popped egg febreeze can't combat. It would definitely win the challenge.

If it pops it could also contaminate other eggs in the incubator.

Has happened to me before. Not a fun thing to clean up.

I am not sure how proud the father is, he appears to be hiding, like he is trying to avoid child support payments.

Not to worry, he has been relieved of any responsibility. They are supposed to go to their new home next Tuesday. He was hiding from me, apparently feeling camera shy.

I have new babies crawling around today as the praying mantises hatched.

R2elk, your not keeping any mottled? They just are so interesting to look at!

I like the shot of papa Sweetgrass....it has a wonderful abstract quality!

Well, I've had the "good fortune " to arrive in Arizona on their first 100 degree day of the year.
And its been over a 100 each day since. Don't believe the shict about the lack of humidity making it a nicer 100....100 degrees feels like 100 degrees....feels like I'm in an oven....heading home tomorrow. This lack of humidity is making my sinuses bleed. Why do people live here?

And my turkeys are being bad girls to their caretaker/sitter. Annie has been walking up to her and just standing there screaming at her. The sitter thinks Annie is cussing at her. I'm convinced she just needs some attention & told her to give her a few pets & hugs. Not happening. She's not a turkey cuddler.

Then Daisy apparently jumped the gate & was following the sitter down the sidewalk to her house. She was stalking her, staying about 10 feet behind her. The sitter didn't notice until she turned down her drive and Daisy flew by her head. The problem with scaring an FBI agent is they can be armed....Daisy is lucky.

Bottom line...my birds are bored. Bored birds are bad birds!!
