A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I could eat my weight in cherries, Feedman! Also mulberrys. Nothing better than a slow rain for a newly planted tree. My family had yo do a "tree intervention " with me! Apparently, according to them, I'm addicted to trees. Planted about 20 trees on my property in Ste. Genevieve. All native, all doing well! Sooo many trees, too little space

I have planted well over 200 trees here and I continue to plant more each year. They don't all make it but if I don't try them I will never know if they can survive here. I have a couple of Evans Bali cherry trees that are loaded this year and the only way that I will get any of those cherries is to put netting over them. The robins seem to think that anything that is red belongs to them. Just one of the reasons that I gave up on growing strawberries.

Of course I had plenty of space to plant trees since I started with just sagebrush and prickly pear cactus when I moved here.

Here are my 2 Bronze poults enjoying some free range time.

In the last picture, can you tell if that is her snood above her eye? I can't tell if that is what it is and it "got moved" during her attack or if it is just some "extra" skin that isn't laying flat (from the attack). You can see a small black protuberance where her snood should be. I am thinking that it will (re)grow there? But I don't really know what I'm talking about, so I thought I would ask to see what you all think.

Fishing was lackluster at best yesterday. But spirits were cold.

Very relaxing.

Decided to kick all my broodys off the nests. Glad I did. I decided to pitch the eggs and 8 that were under a hen all sounded like a 22 when they hit and popped.

2 hens ate and went straight to a dust bath. The 3rd hen just started pacing the pen looking for her eggs. I removed the doghouses they lay in and forcing them to roost on the bars at night.

Memphis & Ralph You'll love this. My nari hen is back up to her old tricks... As we approach the upper pasture in the gator, she flies over the fence, over the gator and then runs behind the gator cooing at us. Her way of saying she wants the first treats. One of these days she's going to figure out how to land in the bed and self serve.

Rjohns, sounds like your Nari has it figured out! Better not leave the gator unattended. She may take off with it! Have a friend with a blue slate tom that insists on sitting up front in his golf cart. We think he just likes to go for a ride. He doesn't haul feed in it, just drives it around his property. If that bird sees him in it he runs after it till he stops & he hops in & off they go. Turkeys are so amusing!

OH! I totally forgot... Remember my Nari who left and joined the wilds? Well I saw her a couple days ago and she has about 20 poults (Nari/wild mix) following her around.

If all of the poults are hers, they are all Bronze with all the females being pure Bronze and all of the males being Bronze carrying a hidden Narragansett color gene.
