A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Aww...Big Bird...so cute! Daisy nods off when you pet the top of her head. Annie loves the back of her neck petted. They are as bad as my dogs...
Had the girls out front grazing before bed last night. Wasn't going to stay out long. It was so hot & uncomfortably humid. Gal down the street walked up with a friend of hers and the friends two daughters. They wanted to meet the turkeys. Daisy immediately went up to the 9 year old. Kid fell in love. She sat down next to Daisy and for 20 minutes Daisy let this little girl pet her. She would lift a wing & look under it. She spread a wing out to see the feathers. Petted her snood & waddle. You name it. All very gently. Daisy was very patient. So cute to see that kid asking about the different turkey parts. She thought her ear muffs were "cool". The mom & older daughter wouldn't touch her. Daisy seriously loves kids. She will seek out the kids in any group. Such a funny bird. Meanwhile I almost had heat stroke.

Tiny T is a perfect name!

I love those markings in its wings. I can't remember if your hens have the red gene. The poult looks kind of reddish on the head?

His hens have the red gene. Ethel Jr is blue/red bronze.. and I think the other was a rusty someting if not slate. I know I got rid of them because I did not want the red gene here....NOW I wish I had kept them. I miss Ethel Jr..

Her and JJ Jr would have had pretty babies. I was going go all SOP turkeys. I have decided not to do that. Showing turkeys is not for me. I want a colorful back yard flock, and people that buy poults don't care what they are.

Once Holm gets his NPIP done, I might just have to buy some poults back from him. I am keeping the red tinted ones I get this year,

Turkeys are not for showing, they are for making pets out of and eating! Not in that order.

They sure can make some incredible pets! LOL...I have a feeling R2elk is shaking his head again. But they can be so lovable.

Ralphie....why not get Porters surprise box for 5 bucks a chick? Sounds like a bargain to me!! We are waiting anxiously to see what Aurora gets in her box!! I'm glad your going back to a mixed flock...

Nope, no more Porters for me. I will be very selective on what I bring in. I have a closed flock and bringing in a bird is a major decision.

Also Porters refused to get an import permit into MN. They are in IN and the state does not require one. I managed to plead stupidity to avoid the penalties once, I doubt stupidity would work twice. I pleaded with Kevin to apply for and get the import permit and he refused. Did not make me happy....

Holm: nice looking poult.

Memphis: I hear ya on the heat. Miserable hot and humid here as well.

Ralphie: sorry about sidekick. And no porters babies.

Just finished hatching my last tray of Turkey's for awhile. I have 10 new bourbon poults. 2 eggs are still moving but don't think they will hatch. Not gonna assist.

Had a Rooster I didn't like so after I got the plucker running I bought. He made the Initial test on it.

I does an alright job. Think I still want a tub type. Youtube makes them look like a better option

I am getting severely old age memory..

I know I told some thread not sure which one, I had a hen (RP) hatch 4 babies a couple days ago. I carried them to a cage in my pole barn.

Mama was not happy with the move. After I got them safely in the cage I went back to look at her eggs. She had 2 unhatched. One was unzipped partially, I took the 2 eggs and placed them in the hatcher. The one I helped hatch...I know,,, but it needed help and was OK.. She sat in the hatcher all day. I thought she was weak and maybe crippled. I did not want to deal with a weak one..

So I took her out to her mother last night. Judy and I were convinced it would be dead by morning.

Today it is fine and I am not even sure which one it is. New Mama did a good job! Amazes me how Mama birds can fix things I can't. I know it would have died in the hatcher over night.

Not wanting any "condolences" Sidekick succumbed to the inhumane heat yesterday.

I wish I had taken his head a month ago like I threatened, now he went to waste.
sorry ralphie :hugs

Thanks. I'm dealing with a cat.

She's 15+ and in distress. I finally got her to drink today--but she won't eat. My son thinks she has a collapsed lung, by human standards, and I hate to see her suffer. She was the former son-in-law's cat... The one he abandoned when he abandoned my daughter.

DW has become especially attached over the years and though I hate to admit it, so have I. If its time, then I want it to be as peaceful as possible.

How many cans of ether would you suggest for a medium sized cooler?
sorry :hugs

Thats great!!! did any of the other eggs hatch?

Yes Dwayne&Liz...more than one kid decided they want turkeys after meeting Daisy. Last night the mom told her to put on her Christmas list. Then winked at me. Poor kid.
Turkeys can bond strongly with humans. You have to put the time in with them. On an average I spend at least an hour each evening with them. Sometimes just sitting & catching up on email or snail mail. Or working around the yard. In which case they just trudge along behind me. Weekends I'm outside quite a bit. They are hanging out with me most of the time. They have come to expect an evening stroll prior to their bedtime. I put the chickens up and the turkeys & I take a walk. They mostly graze the whole time. They will actually go to the gate and wait for me to let them out into the drive way. If I sidetrack into the house they start grumbling.
