A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I assume that you mean that he used a scythe. As a kid I used both a brush scythe and a grass/hay scythe. I still have the grass scythe and have used it here also. If you know what you are doing it is a very efficient way to mow tall grass.

I used a sickle too but you sure would not want to mow a field with a sickle.

There is a hay scythe in my chicken coop. I have used it years ago - I laugh now at the mere thought!

LOL...Flashpoint, I understand completely. Here is my question for the day:

No secret I take my girls for a stroll around the front yard for a graze prior to bedtime. Why do men always want selfies holding a turkey? Two guys in a pickup stopped to talk about the girls. (new neighbors) I had to take their pics holding a turkey. While this was going on, a guy pushing his baby in a carriage stopped to talk & he wanted a pic too. Women don't seem to do this. They just want to pet the girls. What up with the selfies?
I think the guys want selfies with the turkeys because it's a macho/hunting kind of thing. They are so tough, they don't even have to kill their prey. But I guess we won't know unless someone asks them!

Predator question: I lost a chick last night--but its weird. It looks like what ever the culprit was grabbed the bird through the chicken wire and somehow managed to pull it out. All that was left inside the wire was the gizzard. Blood on the bottom rail, and a trail containing a small bone, a partial wing and a foot. No tracks to speak of. The wire at the corner was bent out, but no holes or loose spots. Any idea what I'm dealing with?

I think it was probably a coon too.

From reading the earlier posts I gathered that turkeys like BOSS and mealworms. What else is a know turkey treat?

Coon did that to my OEGB's a couple years back... they're usually very clean, just some feathers, maybe a bit of blood or a piece here or there... also, don't discount the possums around here... those things are demons, I swear...

R2elk...your right. I was a kid. I remember watching grandpa using that thing. I used to spend days with him at the greenhouses. He'd make me sit on the back of the truck while he used it. Guess he wanted me well out of the way. The greenhouse was my favorite place as a kid. Everyone spoke German. Lots of cats running around. And he'd let me pot up plants. Loved playing on the dirt!
