A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Speaking of legbars....why can't both comb styles be acceptable? Maybe comb size is not as important as the crest size. With my breed of dog our standard says that height is between 18-23 inches, but "quality" not to be sacrificed for size, meaning size isn't as important as other things.

The SOP has a limit on the crest so it cannot limit vision,,,that is a pretty small far back comb then...to me, people want the crest more than the comb.

Buyers constantly want the one with the big comb,,I have never had one say " give me the one with the big crest.

Take away the crest, give it a huge floppy comb, and you have a legbar.

My guess is that your Bourbon Red tom is carrying the Black Winged Bronze gene (b1). I suspect that what you are looking at is the Bourbon Red tom (bb1 rr) mixed with the Blue Palm (b1b1 cgcg Dd n-) which produced Blue Red Bronze (bb1 Ccg Dd Nn Rr), Harvest Gold (b1b1 Ccg dd Nn Rr), Red Bronze (bb1 Ccg dd Nn Rr) and Regal Blue Red Bronze (b1b1 Ccg Dd Nn Rr). These color genes are for the males. The females would not have the Narragansett gene at all and would be (N-). I believe that you do have some Harvest Gold turkeys and I believe that your Blue Red Bronzes with the different wing patterns are the Regal Blue Red Bronzes. This would indicate that it is indeed the Black Winged Bronze color gene (b1) causing the difference in the wing color pattern.
Thank you very much! I understand everything you wrote, and I'm very grateful to have you spell it out for me, and tell me your opinion. When I asked on the Turkey Genetics 101 page on FB, I got very little response, and what I got was a bit conflicting.

Since my ultimate goal is Sweetgrass (b1b1 cgcg) with and without the r and the D, then I think I will change my preference from the regular looking poults to the black wing ones. It makes it a lot easier for me to let go of a couple of the regular looking ones because I was really having a hard time deciding.

@duluthralphie who is this lady that keeps appearing in your avatars?

Your current wife is about as tolerant of a person as you will find in dealing with shenanigans like yours, Ralphie. The thing about rich women? They come with prenups. Plus, your wife is better looking than you are....

Lol
