I stupidly let Maleficent out to free range with her four poults this morning. Now she only has three.

I guess they will have to stay confined longer until the new poults can follow her better and she can keep better track of so many. I think the gang of bigger turkeys mauled it but I don't really know for sure who the culprit(s) were. It was very sad. I had to put it out of its misery.

I need to get a picture of my new poult that I picked up this morning at the swap. Supposedly, it's a self blue hatched out from "midget whites". It's very cute

This would be interesting from a genetic point of view. Two whites cannot make anything other than more whites. They would have had to breed a white to a non-white to see what the white was hiding. And to be self blue, both parents have to contribute a blue gene. I imagine there is no way you will ever know, since it was from a swap meet. But at least when the poult grows up, you can see how it turns out.

I like the name Smurf.

Smurf is a cute name but I'm not sure yet. I'm going to wait a little bit before I name him. I did take a picture this morning but hubby is on the computer ATM so you guys have to be patient a little longer for pics. I'm down to 4 poults left from Porter's. I took pictures of them too so you guys can play guess the variety. 1 is the blue penciled palm but that's the only one that I know for sure lol.

You guys are missing the marketing strategy for small turkeys. They should be marketed as "individual serving" sized birds! Just think...you wouldn't have to figure out what to do with left overs. And you can roast it in less than 20 minutes!!
