A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

It's clear to me now that people who don't have turkeys don't understand us turkey people. The lady in the car behind me (one lane country road) was furious with me driving less than a mile per hour as sam and her flock went right down the middle of the road. Worse she turned her flock up into my driveway and stopped about 10 feet in to chow on some weeds, the back end of my truck was sticking out and apparently the lady didn't want to go around. We must have sat there for ten minutes or so until sam decided to wander up to the pasture to see what goodies the babies have left behind.:duc:lau

Well apparently I have a question for you all already! Woke up to a dead Brahma rooster and a 6 week old turkey attacking anything that came near and spinning in circles. The Brahma was the same age. Got a hold of they turkey (palm tom) and one side of his face is swollen and eye is watering. Tylon? Is that what I need to get?

I'm going to defer to the more experienced folks out here.

Well I found Tiny T dead today... RIP

I'm so sorry. That's sad. :(

I sell poults as soon as someone wants to buy them irregardless of whether they are in the brooder or under a chicken hen or a turkey hen. Once the broody has live ones instead of eggs, she is done being broody and may mope for several days but won't normally go back to sitting on the nest after the little ones are gone.

Good luck.
Thank you!
So, my turkey that survived the raccoon attack as a young poult, but lost almost all of the middle toe on one foot has been having a lot of trouble walking. She is now at the bottom of the pecking order. The other 4 turkeys hang out together but she stays by herself. I had planned to keep her for breeding purposes, but am now wondering if I shouldn't process her first instead of one of the others and get a new bronze poult (or 2 or 3). What do you all think?
I think you should get three more turkeys, regardless of who you process.

I hate to even say this, but my turkeys have been perfect for almost a week, Everyone has went to bed on their own and not had to be chased in. I am not sure what they are up to, but I know they are planning an insurrection of some kind. I expect major problems soon.
:yuckyuck
Better be on the lookout!

I think my response was to click the "like" button..I am kind of lazy that way.
:thumbsup
They should have a few of the best emojis down there too so we can just click on them and it would automatically post the emoji and a canned message for us. I can see BYC becoming filled with canned auto responses! :lau

Good for you! Those impatient people can just cool their jets!

Do you think the Brahma died from the same problem the turkey has? My first thought was that the rampaging turkey had killed it. Could the turkey be swelling from a bee sting or something? Need more info I guess. I wouldn't jump straight to antibiotics unless you were sure there was an infection.

Swollen eyes can also just be a nasal irritation

Is it dusty, what are they eating, what is the bedding, etc

Try flushing the eye with saline, look in the mouth (the roof) and see if there is anything stuck up there too
