If you haven't noticed I am an old farm kid and lots of stuff was done by guess or golly when I was growing up...



The one thing I did do was make sure I went about a week after it cleared up to make sure I did not make a resistant strain of whatever it had.

I have tylon on hand right now because I was stupid and got some Silkies at auction. After a couple days they were sneezing and had running noses. Thank god I quarantined them and the tylon has pretty much cleared it up in 3 days. Scared me off of ever getting birds from auction again.

But I'm not completely clear on what it actually helps against. I've been reading other threads you've commented on @casportpony and I'm guessing I lucked out that it worked. My chicken with the swollen foot and leg (no bumble) wouldn't benefit from it so I haven't given it too her.

If meat birds I suggest that you give it orally, not by injection. Dose I would use is 30 mg per pound twice a day.

I doubt it is a mycoplasma. as they did a general blood sample check on mine, I assume under a microscope.. I don't think terramycin would affect a mycoplasma as they are hard to kill because of the lack of cell wall that terramycin destroys as I understand its workings..

Also I doubt my USDA vet would have cleared me with any active mycoplasma infection.

Not that hers could not be different, but they sure look a lot alike. If it is a mycoplasma I would be afraid the bird is lost and should be culled. BUT I kept mine in Quarentine and thought I would give the terramycin a chance. I think on the second or third day I could see it was working.

I only had two birds get this, they were in a new cage with 6 other birds. I took the two out no one else got it? Some luck I am guessing.

I wonder if your chicken has mycoplasma synoviae?

I sold these birds as pets, One is the one I gave to the Iraq vet, the other went to a kid who always wanted a pet turkey. I would not have sold them to anyone that was going to butcher them. Not worth the risk.

The no injections suggestion is because Tylan can cause *severe* muscle necrosis, and since it's given in the breast muscle it could ruin the carcass. Oral tylosin (Tylan) is approved for used in turkeys.
