A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

The no injections suggestion is because Tylan can cause *severe* muscle necrosis, and since it's given in the breast muscle it could ruin the carcass. Oral tylosin (Tylan) is approved for used in turkeys.

Thanks!
And it kills MS?

Why is MS then considered a flock destroying disease, or is that just here?

I doubt it is a mycoplasma. as they did a general blood sample check on mine, I assume under a microscope.. I don't think terramycin would affect a mycoplasma as they are hard to kill because of the lack of cell wall that terramycin destroys as I understand its workings..

Also I doubt my USDA vet would have cleared me with any active mycoplasma infection.

Not that hers could not be different, but they sure look a lot alike. If it is a mycoplasma I would be afraid the bird is lost and should be culled. BUT I kept mine in Quarentine and thought I would give the terramycin a chance. I think on the second or third day I could see it was working.

I only had two birds get this, they were in a new cage with 6 other birds. I took the two out no one else got it? Some luck I am guessing.
You're right, not all sinus infections are contagious, but many are. The sinus infection picture that yoopergirl posted looks a lot like the peafowl and turkeys did at the feed, and I know those were contagious, and Tylan cleared it up right away.

Here is a pic of the girls foot. Today it almost looks like a "head" is forming. Sorry I know its a turkey thread.

If it wont hurt them to try tylon orally should I try? Its been over a week and no one in either flock has the same thing yet.

That's good to know too, I like a couple of options in those rare cases it might be needed. These 2 this summer where the first I had ever seen with the MS look to them (in the face not the legs) I have luckily never seen the swollen legs...yet and hopefully never.

That is really interesting. I have one that is kind of like that. I thought it was an infection started from a roost fight and the nail being jammed or broken. I have been treating with salves and foot soaks.

It was purely scientifically and accurately measured...
I would break a pill into what looked to be the proper size for a turkey poult.

Open its mouth and shove the pill in...force the poult to swallow and pretend it never happened...

I guessed turkey poult dosage to be yay long by yay wide,,,like a really small pea some days and a bigger pea other days....
:yuckyuck:lau:lau

Ive been soaking it. At first there was a tiny scab on her back toe. Not big or black or deep. I thought bumble foot but there was nothing under it at all and the scab was red and really thin.

Thanks!

It *might* work, then they mycoplasma become resistant to it, so then you have to try another drug. They also can get secondary bacterial infections with it, so I think it just becomes a never ending medication nightmare.
