A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

So what breed is the one in the 3rd and fourth pic? looks a lot like my wilds... Gorgeous kids you have.:thumbsup

I still need to hire Ralph to train my tweens... They refuse to go to bed at night.:he

Bob, the dark red/bronze one is Brandie. I was calling her a bronze in the beginning - then someone said there was something else going on there (I think it was @R2elk ). So I have no real idea.

The first pic is Tommie Tucker Turkey - Narraganset gene with a lot of white. And the one we have finally decided is at least a 1/2 BB. The tom in the pic with Brandie is Ironsides - has a lot of silver and white. Goldie is the Golden Narragansett - in the pic of 3 with her in front.

I just call them mine and they come running when I call their names. :lau

Again, beautiful birds. Brandie has the same coloring as sam and her poults. The poults with the nari gene look different.

Thank you Bob :))

It's possible the guy the poults came from had some wilds there, but again, I am speaking without any real knowledge. That said, I think Brandie is the smartest in the bunch, the first to investigate, the first to jump up on the sheds, the first in the trees or on the platform, the first to start hanging out on the utility trailer rails, mower cart, and mower - and the first to jump the fence into the woods.

Tommie is first to the feed bucket.
:lau
And the first to perch on the back porch railing so he can watch the door!

I haven't had much of a problem getting them to go to bed (or into the enclosed pen/shed). All I have to do is walk down there and they dutifully follow me in.

I think they will like their "new room" once I get it finished. Just got all the hay but a few bales out of it and will need to remove some planter pots and lumber. But the overall frame seems to be really strong and with new wire and doors, will give them the opportunity to be inside or out at their pleasure.

I looked at making the run longer, but I am not sure I am up to fighting all the lilac bushes or the Rose of Sharon - as they are all over 6 foot tall.
:old

However, they DO provide a very necessary wind break if the weather comes in from that direction.

How are the poults and Sam doing?

@stephcraig78 the safeguard dose is .25 ml per pound

Someone correct me if that is inaccurate but I am very sure it's correct

Correct... it is 0.5cc/mL per kg which comes out to 0.23cc/mL per pound, but is safe to round up to 0.25cc/mL per pound...

Treat for 5 consecutive days if tapeworm is suspected... otherwise treat 1 day then again in 10 days...

The instructions I go

The instructions I got were 3cc per gallon, which might equate to the same as yours. @msmeower can you confirm?

Unless it is the very expensive water soluble type(I dunno if it's even available in US) Safeguard shouldn't be mixed in water for full effectiveness... it settles to the bottom...
I do individual dosing, more work but guarantees full effectiveness...

Ivermectin for horses, oral
It's 1 mL per 100 lbs. My chickens usually get 0.1 mL each orally, 0.1 mL per 10 lbs

I used Ivermectin on my flock (still do for external parasites) but it did not stop mine from becoming overloaded with gapeworm... Ivermectin is not, IMO, an effective dewormer...

Flash....great looking flock! They do all have their own personalities...don't they?
Low humidity & cooler than normal temps here have my girls all a flutter! They are really enjoying the break in the weather. Me too!!
Annie's tail is making a slow come back. Daisy is still holding tight to her feathers.

Flash, Sam and poults were in the front yard again yesterday, all look healthy and happy and they're getting used to me and the truck. It took them 15 minutes to exit the driveway.... so I got 15 minutes of wild turkey tv. :lau:lau

Memphis, My birds and I are loving these temps. It's 57 degrees right now and beautiful blue sky.:clap

Thank you, Memphis for the kind remarks! Indeed on their own personalities. I've noticed Iron tends to go off on his own but gets upset if the others get out of his line of site. It's like he has this attitude of "I don't care what You do!" Then, panics if the 3 others go around the corner of the shed and then it's "Wait! Wait! I wanna come too!"
:wee:lau

Yes temps have been a lot lower here. Last night it went down to 53 and tonight it says down to 54. It's only 74 degrees right now at 1:07pm. I fear an early winter.

Is Daisy shy or does she think she's above losing "her" feathers? :D

It's partly sunny here and at this moment, looks like it could rain - again :he
I keep feeling the "too much to do and too little time" may be absolutely on target. grrrr
Since I am so :old it takes me forever to get some things done - and my help (grandson) left to go home today.

Great on Sam and the gang! I heard a wild gobble yesterday evening. Mine didn't say anything but they were sure looking - heads held high!

Let all my poults out to range with the flock. They were leary at first but found the grass weeds and fencerow and had a blast figuring out the new stuff.

My adults paid no attention to them. All breeding pens are ranging know.

Bought a yardbird plucker for the grown out chickens. Wanted one to do turkeys but couldnt swing the extra $$$. Tsc had a good deal I think. 399. On them til end of month.

Temps are around 80 during day 60s at night. Seeing a few trees leaves turning and the corn is Browning up. Harvest should start right after labor day if the rain holds off.

Folks, have you had issues with a Tom trying to mate a young (14 week) poult? Until today, my Toms have always left the kids alone until they get to the "right" age.
