A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

12 or so this time of year

Ok. Mine are averaging 8 hours free range - which means they go eat for a little while, then roost in the tree. Go eat another hour, then roost on the shed. Eat a little bit more, then go put their butts on the woven wire fence where they consistently waffle in the wind. Or go check out everyone else's pens for loose grain. Or set on the back porch waiting for me to come out. Or go jump at the apples in the apple tree (cause they already ate all the concord grapes)

I just have to wonder how much time they actually spend eating.

How much time do my turkeys spend eating.Hmmmm

About 2 minutes a day I think.

They spent the entire day checking out the farmstead to see what is new around here. They are preforming watchdog duty when UPS, the mailman or anyone else pulls in here.

When anyone is outside they are busy following us and performing their inspector duties for anything we might do.

There is just no time for eating.

:yuckyuck:lau:lau:lau:goodpost: Yup, them's turkey's alright.:old

Yes Ralphie. ..that about summarizes my girls too. I have a TON of debris strewn all over my yard, thanks to Harvey. Cleaning up with the girls in attendance is quite the challenge! Every time I pick something up (lots of tree debris) they want to take it from me. Or inspect the trash bag I stuff it in. Actually had to put the in their run just to get done without falling over one of them....

Now I don't feel so bad that they are not outside their pen 24/7. lol

Yesterday I was mowing grass on my acre of lawn. The turkeys spent an hour watching me go past them to the other end - then flying down to meet me. Then, they would all stand in a group watching me go in the other direction. Once I got to the other end, they would all hop, jump, fly to catch up!

It's a weird feeling to see large birds coming in like airplanes at face level.
