A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I don't have the time to mess with Facebook. And if I want to check in with a friend I prefer a good old phone call & chat.
I prefer email since all I have is a basic, no frills land line, no answering machine and no free minutes. It ticks me off when I find a local ad interesting only to find a long distance phone number and the refusal to communicate by emails or the demand to communicate by texts. I have a niece who might stop by once every couple of years who wanted to know why I didn't answer her texts. When I pointed at my telephone she replied with OH!

While I have a fancy Iphone. I am bad at using it. People will call me or text and wonder why I never answer or return the text for a day or two.

I have a house phone, no frills, 4 bucks a month with my internet. I leave my fancy Iphone in the house when I am outside. I don't want to break or lose it. If I can lose a wrench I used just 3 minutes ago, think of how hard a iphone I use once a week would be to find?

Yeah email is good. Unfortunately I find myself with several different...business, foundation, personal. And all I want to do is sit on my yard with a turkey on my lap. Oh well....
Speaking of turkeys....Annie's molt is coming along. Loosing big wing feathers now. Her tail is almost back. Daisy suddenly completely quit laying....she may be next in line to molt!

Babies hatched over the weekend! All 4 that developed, hatched. These are the first ones from my CX breeding project. This was before I seperated her with the orpington boy so I'm not sure who daddy is. Since they all have yellow skin, straight combs and clean legs, possible dad's are CX, welbar, or CCL. Any guesses?

I'm certainly no expert, but they look a heck of a lot closer to the CX chicks than any kind of CCL or Welbar chicks.

I hate to be the wet blanket at this party. BUT be very careful with your turkeys (our) turkeys that have bonded to us.

They think of us as turkeys, BIG large turkeys. They will most likely not challenge us for the pecking order spot we hold. Hence, they are submissive to us and we take that as cute and love even. It is not. We humans are easy to fool when we want to by what we see.

An 8 year old is another story. They will easily challenge a kid.

I never let kids near my birds unless I am there an between the two of them. Especially the Toms.

I am not saying every time there will be a problem, but there can be..

Ralphie the wet blanket....Night all!

That's a good reminder, and very true indeed. I'm pretty sure the young turkeys see my dog as a lower turkey. They are always pecking at her stripes, her tags, ears etc. The dog is very good, but I know those buggers can be annoying.

Had the heck scared out of me this morning. Let the birds out early. Was out in the back of the yard gathering the last bit of debris from Harvey, it's trash day today. Had a hand full of sticks and walked across the yard to the trash bag. All birds were on my heels. Annie making a weird clucking. Walked back across the yard, all birds under foot. Turkeys making clucking sounds. Then I noticed two pit bull type dogs in my garden area trying to get through the fence to me & the birds. I had left the gate to the driveway open. They ran away quickly when confronted by a screaming banshee brandishing a rake. You'd think I would have learned to pay attention to my turkeys when they exhibit weird behavior. They never lie about potential threats.
