The reason that gate was open was my fault. I had been hauling debris to the curb. Normally I'm religious about closing it. But the turkeys were trying to alert me & I was ignoring their behavior.

Looks like it might be blackhead. Was the poult sick? What did the cecal pouches look like? This is what they should look like:

Everything looked fine except for the liver. The bird was running around happy two days ago and was dead yesterday. I didn't lose any birds last year and haven't lost any adults this year.

This is why I ask, while rare in turkeys it can happen but I would think you would have chicks dropping over from other than your holding them..
