We prop up the barrel on big cinder blocks and build a fire under it, so the half barrel is high enough we aren't bent over. Plus I'm only 5 ' tall.

I do the same thing but instead of a fire I use one of those massive weed burning torches us guys love to play with....

I prefer my scalder up on blocks too, but DW won't help if I do that, so I bend.

Some wear and tear over the years is to be expected. Perfect is not a requirement. I have over 40 years of training in this one, do not expect to trade one of those with only 15-20 years training or less for this one, without sweetening the deal with cash...

Some one told me I should try to trade her for 2-30s or 3- 20s....Can you imagine all the work that would be ti get them trained??? My goodness! That will never happen..

My DH helps by standing around like a sad puppy while I'm plucking birds until I hand him a naked one to take inside to mom so she can gut it.
