A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I'm sorry to hear that Ralph but at least you get to keep them around.

I'm just now looking in to the whole NPIP thing. I survived my long day in the car the other day and the CPT class. I even brought home a whole big box of blood sample tubes and a few swabs. Next step is calling my regional vet to prove that I can draw blood and swab (I need to get some syringes and practice a few times). Then I'm going to dive in to all these pages of NPIP stuff. There's a lot of info to go through it looks like.

A hint on the draws... Get 18-20 and 22 ga needles.. Some birds take smaller needles than others. It is hard at first, but it comes along. The drop of blood is a breeze. Filling the syringe can vacuum. Use the elbow, stop and start the blood flow with your finger to really see the edges well if need be.

Awww that stinks! What if you sent the three to camp kenmore... would you still be able keep your npip? Just a thought that popped in my noggin. And from then on f they did test positive, only a few each year, do the same.... i dunno that might be teeterin with the devil.

To me, as long as I can keep it on my chickens I am happy. I have always said if I had to choose between my turkeys and my Chickens, I will keep the turkeys.

This way I can still keep them both. It is only a matter of time until the MS/mg is dropped, here in Mn. Then I will add the turkeys back on.

Ralph...I'm right there with ya. If I had to choose...it would be my turkeys.

My baby Sussex are getting close to going into the coop with the cranky 'ole hens. They've been free ranging during the day with the flock. But I put them in their baby pen at night. The turkeys are still keeping an eye on them. If a chicken hen starts to chase them, they run to a turkey moma. Boy are they cool little birds. You can reach down & snatch one up with no screaming. They still hop into my lap. So happy to have little SS around again....its been too long.

Went well with the crock pot chuck roast and horseradish mashed potatoes!

I think my husband and my animals just keep me around because I feed them so well!
