A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Maybe the saddle would be an option, but I have 6 hens, and 2 toms.
One tom is more than enough for 6 hens. Once I know a tom is a poor breeder I will not use him to breed my hens to make sure he does not pass on his genes for bad breeding.

One of the most common cause of injuries to hen turkeys is having multiple toms in with the same hens. The injuries occur when one tom knocks the other tom off the back of the hen he is trying to breed.

Thanks, I will see if someone can take him locally. I don't want to see any more of my girls hurt. Should he absolutely go to a home with more females? Or would he be okay with a flock of just chickens?

Thanks all for the help.

Oh my gosh!!! I just went out and tried candling for the first time ever. Absolutely incredible!! I saw several fertile eggs with veins starting. Some were more MOVING!! Others I saw their heartbeat thumping away. I am sooo excited!! What do I do gang!?!? Let her sit on them or no? I don’t have an incubator yet since we weren’t planning to try hatching till spring time. Put a heating pad under her bin? Please give me some advice. I’m searching through all the articles and forums now.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it? She may do just fine, but you may want to pick up a cheap incubator in case an emergency comes along.

X3. She knows what to do, no need to add supplemental heat or anything.

Also, if she gets off the nest to eat or drink and comes back to the wrong nest, don’t worry. Even if the eggs have cooled a good bit, they are usually okay, just pick her up and place her back on the correct nest. I had that happen the other day, and she was off the eggs all day. They were quite cool, but I put her back and they are good to go! 11 fertile eggs...

I am sure that you would not like my suggestion but I never pass problem animals on to other people. Placing a lone tom turkey with only chickens could be very harmful to the chickens. Placing him in a home with other hen turkeys could be harmful to those hens. If it was me, I would invite him to be the guest of honor at someone's dinner feast.

I'm going to defer to others I've never heard of them being gone that long or picking the wrong nest. sorry.:idunno
It happens. I have dealt with that issue myself although not for an entire day. The changing of the nest issue is usually because a higher ranking hen decides to use that particular nest box to lay an egg and once the evicted hen settles in another nest box she usually won't return to the right nest box until her next broody break.

Oh I completely understand. That will be my next option, if I cannot find a suitable home for him. I could not process him, but I’m sure I could find someone who would.

I th8n8 that’s what happened. I’m not worried though, these are white leghorn eggs I have her just to give her some chicks and maybe have a couple of extra layers. If she only hatches a few, that’s fine. So far, all 11 look like they are right on track. :)
