i currently have them in my little chicken coop, but for summer they were in a chinchilla cage, i wanted to put that cage in my big walk-in coop but it got too cold to quick to get that accomplishedI know there’s a section/thread on here but I’m curious about raising the coturnix quail. Might look into building a hutch style cage against the pump house to keep like 2 small groupings... they’re cute and tasty and lay eggs quick and eat the same higher protein feed as the turkeys/guineas.
One word of above on the quail...NEVER, try to keep them with any kind of chickens! Even the tiniest of bantam seramas! I made a fatal mistake with mine the other day :/ I had a boy and 2 girls, perfect trio from my 3 eggs that hatched. They were getting very big in the brooder so I thought that I would move them out to the temporary, winter home with the seramas since they were about the same size. I checked then every half hour, ask day long to make sure all was good and everything seemed fine. Over night, my seramas decided to attack my quail. The one girl was dead already when I found them in the morning. The other girl and the boot were both scalped badly and the boy couldn't open his eyes. I lost that other girl that evening. The little boy is still with us and is recovering. He still can't open his eyes but he's energetic and happy. He's back in the brooder with the new years hatch a long babies. He starts calling when he hears my voice and is ready to eat (I'm hand feeding him now). He's such a sweet thing. I feel absolutely terrible about it.

Sorry about your quail. Birds are definitely brutal at times. I’d have them separate from all other poultry in cages since I hear their droppings are quite stinky. Just need to figure out a good cage design (been looking around on here/Internet). Will be a little while before can get them since we have other animals to get first.

i like the rabbit hutch way of keeping them but my hubby wouldnt let me get the free hutch
