A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

The scene outside the back door. I was late for her evening stroll. Look how annoyed she looks. So not amused.

No, the feral cat is not coyote bait. But even if I wanted to bring him inside to keep him safe I couldn’t. He’s the definition of feral. He sees a human and bolts for cover.

He doesn’t hunt the turkeys either, they chased him along the fence and he decided they aren’t worth the risk of being pecked to death.

I know there’s a section/thread on here but I’m curious about raising the coturnix quail. Might look into building a hutch style cage against the pump house to keep like 2 small groupings... they’re cute and tasty and lay eggs quick and eat the same higher protein feed as the turkeys/guineas.

Aha! PolarBerry's turkeys are cat chasers too!

Feedman raised, or is raising, quail. They are cuties. Several folks on here have them as house pets.

Here I am again forced to take the other side of an issue....

The issue being "Cats as Coyote bait?" As the elder statesman of the thread, and with way too many birthdays behind me.

Whereas: I have seen cats in their natural habitat, for better than 3 score, I hereby declare all cats are coyote bait.......unless they are proven more useful killing creatures I despise more than cats.

That should settle that.....

As far as turkeys chasing cats that is simply a fairly tale....

My soon to be headless bronze turkey had the UPS guy put an extra step into his gait yesterday. I warned him. He was worried about my stupid black lab that barks when someone drives in the yard. She just wants to be petted. Has no idea why she is barking, but she scares people when she does this.

I told the UPS guy "nevermind the dog watch out for the brown Turkey",,,,He did not take me seriously. He should have.

The tom did not get him but did make a short "charge" at his backside. As much as I want his color genes in the breeding pool. I am thinking he needs 4 hours at 375 degrees to mellow out.

Ralph...my turkeys are cat aggressive. Not people aggressive, nor dog aggressive...I wish they were squirrel aggressive. I have no explanation for their behavior. I don't excuse their behavior. I feel to love a cat or hate a cat should be an individual choice. They have made their choice and have expressed their hatred on three occasions. I have never seen these cats in my yard, or neighborhood for that matter, after my turkeys expressed their hatred like a couple of Sicilian mafia members. All three incidents required my intervention. All three victems were frozen in place with the most horrid expressions of fear on their wiskered faces. My cat haters worked in complete unison. Advancing on their victims swiftly. Why do some people hate cats? Why do some turkeys hate cats? I consider it yet another mystery of the universe.
