So I have a 14 month Bielfelder hen “Big Bertha” she was just hanging in the coop when I was cleaning acting like she was straining to poop but not like egg bound strained. She has always had a very large wiggly wobble crop and my other Bielfelder hen does too. I read that’s normal for the Breed. Anyways I assumed she could have a laying/egg issue and gave her a nice epsom soak (felt her underside and no egg) (also her belly is not squishy) she enjoyed it then put her in my shop room to monitor with calcium food and water. She was definitely drinking but not eating and not pooping. Then I realized her crop wasn’t emptying. So yesterday I did the crop massage got some nasty stinky fluid and some old food out . Gave her only water with electrolytes/vitamins and checked her this morning and noticed a lot of watery poop which made me happy to see something was getting through her system. But her crop wasn’t emptying still full of fluid so I repeated the massage upward and more feed and fluid drained out. I can not feel anything obvious in her crop . I let her out with her flock to get sunshine and she still pecks and scratches . Her color is good but her comb has flopped over and she has felt lighter. Anything I should be doing on top of massaging crop? She drinking plenty of water and I think she’s just weak. I put her in my shop room at night with no food or water to check on digestion the following morning. Below is the poop I found this morning in her room.

Be careful with the soaking set up, and observe her. Someone posted their rooster panicked and drowned while soaking them in a similar covered tub.

It sounds like your hen may have a reproductive disorder because of the yellow urates in her dropping, and that she is also suffering from impacted or sour crop. Emptying the crop can be dangerous and cause aspiration. Does she have access to granite poultry grit? I would offer her 1-2 tsp of chilled coconut oil twice a day. Check her crop each morning at daylight before she eats or drinks to see if the crop is empty, full, puffy, doughy or firm. Miconazole cream or Monistat can be fiven orally to treat sour crop. I would offer some very watery chicken feed and some egg, and plain yogurt. Here is a good article on treating crop disorders:

Reproductive disorders include internal laying and salpingitis, and can lead to egg yolk peritonitis (coelomitis.) Yellow urates in the poop are related to these because of liver issues.

I always monitor my hens while in the soak tub. She has a hole but wouldn’t stick her head out. They can also get Urates from dehydration and since she was chugging water and unable to digest I’m going to assume that’s causing the color. Up until this she’s had no egg issues. She free ranges and gets plenty of grit. Today she’s been out and about she did eat some egg this morning and she’s been scratching. I will continue to keep her separate at night. And will look into the monistat

That is definitely some icky poo.

I can't believe she stands in the tote that way. If you remove the lid, will she fly out without you holding her or continue to stand there?

Reproductive issues seem to be a slippery slope in only one direction. I hope she recovers. Wishing you the best.
