A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Yeah Jerry...I've decided Mr. Owl is standing by his woman. I need to get into the backyard & see if I can find the nest in the magnolia. Anyone ever eat an owl egg? Kidding!! I'm sure that nest falling out of a tree is a Federal offense. Kidding...again!
They are cavity nesters . So look for a hollow tree or a broken off tree . Sometimes there is a cavity like broken top . It could be quite a distance away but close enough he can watch it .

Man my tom’s tail is looking rough... between the fighting with the soon to be gone second tom (main culprit) and the hens/guineas pecking at him I hope that the butchering of some of the birds lets his tail regrow. He’s been so focused on breeding and non stop strutting that he doesn’t do any self care, lol. Still on 20% protein feed plus mealworms and lots of grass... poor guy looks ragged.

Sorry, his tail feathers won't come back until he molts. Be sure to limit the amount of mealworms that are fed. They like BOSS should be considered treats. All treats added together should be limited to a maximum of 10% of the total diet.

They don’t get all that many mealworms (due to cost of mealworms). Just a sprinkle on their feed every few days. Usually the hens snatch them up first anyway. I assume they molt after breeding season?

Romeo and Roomy are looking the same way right now, very ragged. Most of their tail feathers are basically gone and their cheats/bellies are practically bald! Mister is the only one that actualy looks good right now lol

Turkey tail tribulations! Annie sure likes to display. Daisy, hardly ever. Annie will stick those tail feathers up at the drop of a hat...literally. She is defiantly the drama queen around here. Sorry for the repeat picture...I just think she's cute!

Jerry...read up on nesting habits of Barred Owls. In our area there is a good chance there is a Mrs. Owl sitting on a nest. April seems to be the month they tend to hatch down here. Oddly, months ago I thought I was seeing two owls. And hearing two. Then decided I was imagining things. I'm on the search for the Mrs.
