A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Ok, funny how everything you read says don’t wash then some places say do wash... just so much conflicting advice!

I know when the birds hatch them naturally they have poop on them.

If you are reading things that say don't wash them you are reading the wrong things..

NPIP school will teach you to wash all eggs and why. If they are going into an incubator, you wash them. If they are going under a broody, you don't.

Washing eggs is one of those things I get persnickety about....

Do the poo stained areas matter or should I just consider those dog food? Before my guineas went away it seems my eggs were a LOT poopier because the guineas roosted above the hens and crapped on everyone and everything. Yummy. With 3 less birds my coop is much cleaner, now if only the hens didn't think the poop catching area or muddy ground was better than their nest boxes...

I consider stains as non-bacterial...just cause I wanna.

I have only hatched a 100 or so chickens and a few Turkeys. I've never washed my eggs.
as far as I know I've only lost a couple eggs that started to develop. I could see a small dark area in both eggs I lost. The rest that didn't hatch were clears and I've only had a few of them. With this said I can not remember setting a egg with more then a smudge on them.
Right now I have 30 something turkey eggs in my bator and I moved one that has a dime size hole pecked, into my hatching bator

You know what they say " it's better to be lucky than smart"...:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:gig:gig:gig:gig:gig:gig:lau:lau:lau:lau

Actually there is no way to know if the clear is because of bacteria or not. Some are. some are not, is my guess...

I have hatched a hair over a 100 myself..

I have set my second hatch of the year...

127 eggs including:
15 turkey eggs ---16 if you count the one with new skin on it.
9-toad or turkey eggs, I cannot tell the difference and the person marking them just put a T on them......I may have to dismiss that person from egg collection duty....

So with luck I will have my first poult May 1st, only 2 months behind last year!

I have 7 eggs I put new skin on, they probably will not hatch, but I wanted to give it a try. Assume they cracked from freezing, except the one that fell 9 inches into the sanitizing pail.

I may have to fire the sanitizer too.

Poop or no poop....someone hatch something so I can get my bug eyed baby fix!

Here last years viewers choice...this was taken March 18, this year I did not even have an egg until after that date.
