A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

What's more adorable that a sleeping turkey poult? A sleeping turkey poult snuggling with baby quail :)

I’m hoping my dry run incubation yields much better results this time. Good luck with yours!

Also we built the turkeys a nice elevated nest box to lay in and they still like their poop catcher best. I don’t remember showing a picture of the roost 2.0 but here it is all updated.

We’re going to put wire over it so poop can fall through but they can’t brood the poop. We used cement mixing tubs so I can hose them out periodically.

I also switched to sand with stall dry from just sand and holy moly talk about easy clean now! Smelling much better.

I’m expecting protest eggs left all over though once I block them from the poop buckets....

I tried to make the inside of the turkey chalet very turkey friendly.....

nice 2x4 roost bars and lots of deep hay, so fat they aper to prefer the run.... sigh.
On a side note we decided to put up a visual barrier, the turkey run is adjacent to the dogs yard and she was loving supervising..... except it made them nuts. The tom kept pacing the dog trying to run her off threw the fence and his girls would not settle down. So we put up some left over weed barrier so they can't see each other. So far much better... I forgot to take pics

PolarBerry & Alicia....nice job on the coops!

Aurora....that poult using the quail as a pillow is darling!

We got a little run off from the tropical storm yesterday. So didn't take the girls for their evening stroll. Yeah...I heard about it. All birds were soaking wet. None of them seem to mind.

I have released the girls!!

I am through hatching and tired of them being in the coop/run. I opened the door and everyone is free again. I am so happy.

I wish I could free range mine but no fat chance with my one dog around... once the meat birds are processed I’m going to put them in my tractor so they can get on some new ground and I can let their pen ground recover. I’d put them in my goat pen if they wouldn’t just fly out and get eaten... we have bobcat and coyote and last week my neighbors saw a momma bear with cubs and a cougar.

When my girls come out of their pen, Daisy always flaps & does a little dance. Sorta cute. Mine free range...but are still so happy to get out in the mornings.

Had to physically pull my coonhound off a tree this morning. I didn't see anything. Hope it wasn't a coon! Dragged him to the house where he proceeded to try & crawl out the window. Geez!! Crated him & left for work. Hope he sleeps it off.

I understand about the predators! We have everything from Eagles to weasels and a bear that likes to bring her cubs down about 1/2 mile from my coops....so far she doesn't seem to know where my coop is

I've got a couple more weeks and will be thrilled when everyone is back out on pasture, not that they stay in it during the day, but I need to get them back outside.

There's a really good video post out here on BYC about bear protection... There are two posts #4 and #9 that have really good info. For smaller furry creatures I use Premier 1 feather net with a one joule solar charger and for my tractors I use three hot wires and a .1 joule solar charger. I don't have to deal with bears or big cats just yet, but If I do, horse rope will become my go to wire.
