OMG R2elk!! That's the best pic! Did she hatch them herself? That's why I dont have a tom. I'd already have those babies named & in lapper training. I'd be up to my eyeballs in lappers!!
:lau
This is the one that hatched a total of 11 but lost one due to stepping on it. I hatched two because she abandoned the last four eggs. Those were the ones that when I tossed the first one the egg broke and there were two little legs kicking through the crack in the shell. I rescued the egg and manually "hatched" the cracked one and went through days of putting the poult in a "cup" to help it to get its legs working and it kept escaping the "cup". There is no way I can tell which two I hatched from the ones she hatched. They are just over one month old and I am starting to be able to pick out some of the little toms.

If you ever decide to hatch any, you will have to learn that you cannot keep them all just like you cannot keep all the puppies any of your dogs give birth to.

The littles thought they should be up where the big birds get to roost.

Adorable :love

Shame there is not a other calendar, this would be perfect:wee

But there is a calendar! Well, some years BYC has one dedicated to anything but chickens. However, R2elk could/should produce a turkey one with his photos. Some are amazing!

R2elk....honestly, by the time a litter is 7/8 weeks old....I'm exhausted and ready for them to go!!

Sfgwife...not sure I understand the spoons in the persimmon seed comment.

We are back to 100 heat index. Both girls are down to one tail feather each. They are looking pretty ratty! Even so, we took a walk yesterday evening. Little worried the neighbors won't understand the molt thing & will turn me in for percieved turkey abuse.
